Still more engineering support that goes to literally the same platform just one that is more powerful..
I still think consumers will be more mad about it. Only 3 year old consoles and a new one already? May as well have bought a PC at that rate

Well, they should've ;)

I don't disagree!
My friend is pretty annoyed with this new PS4k/Neo(whatever it's called) situation. He told me if he knew ahead of time a new console would come out 3 years later that's more powerful, he would have rathered given me the money to build him a PC.. So that's how I see it, people are gonna get annoyed and mad. I know I am, my ps4 is not a year old to me yet, and now a new one? Waste of money imo. I could understand after 6/7 years a new one, but not even 3 yet? Too soon Sony!

I completely disagree, we were stuck with the 360 and PS3 hardware for FAR too long, Compare how fast things moved back in the 8-bit / 16-bit / 64-bit days...

People were spoiled by having those consoles for too long and in my opinion, the industry as a whole paid the price.

The graphics stagnated and it hurt the progression of graphical fidelity, and instead all they did was try and eek as much as they could from the hardware, which always had a ceiling and had no real innovation. Keeping the hardware on a faster change / update cycle keeps them more current (even if they are behind still) and keeps the platform more up to date and gives people an affordable option for 4k and VR. (because lets face it, to build a 4k PC is going to cost a pretty considerable amount more).

Keeping consoles on a faster refresh cycle is a good thing. People have that kind of disposable income nowadays and it kind of makes sense.

I don't know anyone with disposable income. Who wants to spend 400$+ every 3 years before including PS+ or games? Thats a significant investment in a short period of time. It makes sense from a hardware standpoint. But that's not what consumers care about. Most console players are casual ones, they are going to feel ripped off. Even with this upgrade, 4k/ VR still won't be great, so why bother with a new console

VR for gaming is going to go the same way the Wii did, huge investment or not. The only real use is education, production or research.

I'm not to sure how it will work out TBH. I just know that the really ideal uses, that you listed, are a pretty big deal. It should see a lot of money there. I think it would be good for drivers in training.. before they hit the road. Just another market for it
