VXAO is only available in DX11 mode. It disappeared from the setting when DX12 is enabled. Is this supposed to be this way?
Also enabling DX12 mode seems to disable Nvidia SLI. My second 980Ti stays at 0% utilisation allthough SLI is enabled. The bench score dropped from ~92fps in DX11 mode to ~74fps in DX12 mode.

System is a i7-3930K@4.8GHz on all 6 cores; 2x 980Ti@1520MHz/4050MHz in SLI.
Game runs in windowed fullscreen mode with everything maxed except AA which is set to SMAA. Resoultion is 2560x1600.

Wow check out those performance gains, DX12 is awe... Wait! What? 18fps drop. Something isn't right.

As I said, DX12 runs only on one GPU.

I tested this a bit further and disabled SLI alltogether. Funny thing is now both DX versions run exactly the same with ~72fps. So enabling SLI might get +2fps here for DX12, but this could also be in the margin of error for the measurements.

Another funny thing is, that the highest performing mode is DX11 with exclusive fullscreen @ ~102fps. In this mode DX12 won't run at all. Just hitting the Play button exits the application and puts you to the desktop again. ^_^
Maybe this is the reason why MrKambo couldn't get this DX12 to work alltogether. Switch to windowed mode and see if that helps.

So the conclusion as of now is, that DX12 will only run in windowed mode and only on one GPU. It does next to nothing to improve the performance (at least on my system) and it prohibits the use of the newly added VXAO feature, which is only available in DX11 mode.

DX12 works in exclusive fullscreen for me.

How many displays have you hooked up to your GPU and what GPU do you have?
I'm running extended desktop with 4 screens now, maybe that's the problem, I'll investigate this...

Edit: I just managed to run it in DX12 fullscreen mode. It seems that one out of ten tries after switching display outputs will get the game to launch. But unfortunately even at fullscreen DX12 there is no SLI support and no gain in performance.

I am using a single 4K display and have used a GTX 960 and a GTX 980Ti so far.

I will be testing with my AMD GPUs shortly.

It seems right now that DX12 is not being pushed as heavily as the DX11 version of new titles, which makes sense given the fact that there are still a lot of gamers on Windows 7 and that there are still a large number of people using older hardware.

Hopefully developers can improve their implementations of DirectX 12 moving forward, which ATM is a huge topic of discussion at GDC.

Just tried it on my system, and it took a couple of attempts to get it to run but there is not a performance increase in terms of frame rate, but it didn't stutter as much and felt smooth even when it dropped down to below 30fps this was at 4K maxed out except for AA which was turned off.

Up to now given the performance of games that have been patched to DX12 it's not looking to good for it, in my opinion but maybe when we start seeing games that are developed for DX12 from the ground up we might see some differences in performance.

I know there is AOS that I believe maybe a DX12 based game, but that is really the only one I have heard off, since the likes of GOW and Forza are all iirc DX11 games patched to DX12.
