Prime Video are now working on a Tomb Raider series

And if she puts herself as Lara... im outta there.

Jokes aside. I almost think this is set to fail from the start. Fallout has set such high expectations of game to series conversions that you either have to deliver a monstrous plot and direction or pull in a A-list cast just to break even on the budget.

I mean, it's a great idea. Her character has a lot of potential when it comes to live action. Fallout seems to have been incredibly successful, but LOTR has been a disaster. The new teaser trailer for season two looks appalling; so bad in fact that it would have actually been better for the studio to not release it.

I think if they hired a the right mix of talent and passion for the character, I don't see any reason why a Croft series wouldn't work. It makes more sense to me as a film since her escapades are usually centred around one thing at a time, but I'm sure they could theoretically make a series work. Whether Amazon is artistically capable enough for that is 50/50.

The difference is that LOTR went against Tolkiens vision purely because they found him archaic and old fashioned, and they wanted the world of WOKE to be inclusive in the series. Here was the result.

Fallout stays true to the stories of old and present lore. It doesnt stray or feel the need to have minorities or make people feel left out etc. It takes the world as it was and rolls with it.

To echo what Warchild said, With Fallout they basically just did a carbon copy of the games and put it on the screen, With Rings of Power they completely twisted Tolkiens world and inserted western identity politics which bit them in the rear as it is now the butt of many jokes... not forgetting to mention the props were awful, A 1 Billion dollar budget yet their armour and weapons look like something out of a low budget fan film.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is pretty far left wing, About as far left wing without doing a full circle to going right wing as you can get, As such she is quite anti man, Anti west and quite openly on many occasions anti white.

I can pretty much guarantee her version of Lara Croft is going to become Ms Croft who fights the mythical patriarchy with a bullring through her nose and blue coloured hair while lecturing everyone on micro aggressions.

If Phoebe Waller-Bridge's writing is anything like her acting then it'll be terrible.

I had no idea who that was, had to look her up on IMDB.

I can honestly say I have never watched anything with her in it.

As for the TV Series, I will wait and see what it's like although my expectations are low.

That's not a fully accurate picture of why the show sucks though... Just saying that it's 'woke' or 'ignores Tolkien' is only half the picture. The show is terrible in virtually every respect. The actors, the visuals, the pacing, the narrative. The dialogue tries to be Tolkien-like but fails because writing Tolkien is absurdly hard if not impossible. You can be woke and deviate from the original source material and still tell a good story. Inclusivity or wokeness is not the antithesis to good storytelling and doesn't need ot be. It often is, but it is avoidable. For example, Barbie is woke but still does what it's supposed to do. The reason some don't like it is because it's woke, not because it's poorly made. I think some struggle to distinguish between woke and just being crap. They can't distinguish THEIR political views from the political views the film is pushing.

I disagree. There has always been political agenda in media. It's never been an issue people would still watch. The past decade however is so much pushing and changing key elements of lore or whatnot just to push that agenda which ruins the entertainment value because you are fundamentally changing the story that was originally told.

Actually, if you check online. They specifically targeted Tolkien for his old fashioned outlook on the world. Implying racism to an extent, because there were no characters of colour for example, so they intentionally added such characters to be inclusive. This was admitted by one of the actors (Sophia Nomvete). Her words were "we want elf diversity" :D

However... as you said. Its not fully accurate. The other half of the shows downfall is that the Tolkien estate refused Amazon to use any of the same Era of the movies. Only the second era was permitted. There was to be no tie to Jacksons third era, which is the era we all love and cherish.

I do wonder if going to the media and trying to brand Tolkiens vision in a negative light had an adverse effect on the family estates permission to use the Lore the world is more familiar with.. the fellowship of the ring. Thats just an assumption of mine of course.

I agree. It's been in media for years. I think people just don't agree with this particular political leaning. Or they do to a degree but feel it's being pushed by people they can't relate to. Or it's being pushed too hard. Still the point remains, pushing agendas in films has been around for decades, and many times to its detriment.

Yeah, I remember watching some of the crew's views on the show and their intentions to dismantle the apparent racism in Tolkien's works. It really was a disaster. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the cast's comments ended up hurting the show's earnings.

The comment I made about the show trying to be Tolkien-like was in regards to its 'wise musings'. Just listening to Tolkien talk in an interview is like listening to a poet recite carefully written anecdotes or memoirs when all he's doing is telling you what he had for breakfast. He's a literary genius in many ways, a oneofkind. They clearly wanted to capture that fluidity and philosophical intellectualism. It's not the lore or the social stuff I'm talking about, really, just the way Tolkien writes his sentences.

I still remember the days of my English lessons where we read "the hobbit" its what got me hooked into fantasy. From their I disappeared into Tolkiens world. The Silmarils is very good too.
