Replacement GPU

For starters, i've been considering a new GPU for a while now, and after watching TTL'S #TBT review, and looking at some of the older cards, which you can pick up for cheap now. I've been looking at a GTX 295 - one concern is, will it run on a 550W PSU, and is it worth around £70-100 or should i pick up a more modern card.

Running -
i5 3570k @ 4.2 1.1v
8GB Patriot Viper @ 2133Mhz
Sandisk SSD 120GB
1TB WD Blue
AsRock Extreme 4 Z77
5850 Powercolor

I don't have much money so if anyone else have an suggestions for around the same price which still have the same performance increase. Thanks

But will that be a better upgrade than the GPU i have now? I don't want to be spending money on something that isn't an upgrade.

id of thought a 750 would of been an improvement anyway :)
not even a 750ti but a 750 would have no issue on that power and rival the 560ti by the looks of things and thats around the 100 mark.

Ok thanks for the advice and the right direction barnsley :D - would be crossfire be viable such as like 7770/7790? They're pretty cheap now

When crossfire works they are equal to a 7970 in some situations although they might cost a bit too much thanks to mining.

It's not that i NEED SLI/Xfire, it's that I want it. IMHO i think 2 graphics cards looks better than just the singular one unless it's under water. But because i can't afford anything overly expensive i was thinking Sli/Xfire might be the choice for me. One cheapish card for now, and then another at a later date.

If you can push the budget a tiny bit more you could get an R9 270 that is alot better than the 750. The prices are usually around £130, but i have seen them on sale for £120 before The 750's are somewhat overpriced currently with them being only about £10 or so off the 270. Hope it helps! (or even a 660 for around £130)

You would be better off buying a single more powerful card over 2 low end cards in Xfire/SLI. Far more for your money and in the future could buy the higher end card again for very cheap allowing you to gain a much bigger increase in performance.

I would go out of those two for the Sapphire 270 (this is also because i have never heard of that company for the 660:p). However for £5 more you could get the 'Bf4' edition and sell that game/code or keep it to play if you wanted.

bf4 version:

The 660 is a good card, but the 270 is that tiny bit better. Either you will be happy with as it's only a few fps difference.

Also, just to add, i would personally go for either version here of the 270 or 660 that is GIGABYTE due to them having a UK RMA service and generally being quicker than alot of companies.

The 660 £135

270 £128

Anyway, i hope it helps!

The only reason i was consdering the 660 is that it only needs ONE 6PCIE connector. So in time i could easily upgrade to a second one. But the AMD cards are just so much nicer looking :(
