Replacement Fan Suggestions on 550D

I prefer NOT to have LED fans, but I will tolerate if they perform well. I don't need all same fans- Example: Noctua on rear and Silverstone APs on the front. Cost not an issue, but I still want best performance per $$.

Preferred Fan Setup:

Intakes

Two 120s in the front

-Will a side fan make any difference (I was thinking a single 200mm fan - will not use if not necessary)? I will be using either a 7850 / 7870 or future Keplar cards in the $200 to $400 range.​

Exhaust:

One 140 on the rear

-Will two 140s on the top make a difference (Again, won't use if not necessary)?​

I would like a quiet system so no delta jet engine fans! I need fans that perform well when air flow is restricted (front intakes have dust filters + sound dampening door- they only get air from bottom and side vents).

The 550D is quite small, so there's no need for high RPM fans.

What's CFM? Will more CFM matter to me?

What makes a good exhaust fan? I feel like there is no need for fans that have good range- like the Air Penetrators / Noctua F12

I was thinking having Air Penetrators in the front and a Noctua S12B in the back. Other suggestions?

I would get the new noctua "direct flow" NF-F12's they do the same job the air penetraters do but much better and much more quieter! They would be good for dust filters as they have good static pressure. If money is not an issue I would just get these fans thought.

Fans on the top as exhausts will help ALOT as an exhaust as heat rises so by putting fans at the top you will be removing the hot air quicker = cooler rig

CFM = cubic feet per minute of air a fan can push, the higher the better but the higher the louder. But static pressure is more important

For high resistance. A fan with high static pressure will be able to maintain It's rated CFM even under resistance whereas a fan with high CFM but low CFM will loose its CFM as it will not have the "strength" to push/pull the air under resistance.

for other case fans i can also suggest Be quiets , got one as a rear 140 mm fan and its brilliant ! , super silent and nice airflow

as for your set up question depends really

altho it has been said a side fan without a filter will improve dust collection ive heard

is it neccesary to have a side fan depends on how good the airflow in ur case generally is

if ur card is not sandwiched between cables then it should cool enough by itself

heat rises so top exhaust is a general recommendation

This test didn't have the F12 but the APs were recommended due to their direct air flow or something.

Could someone show me a test between the F12s and the APs? Do the F12s come in 140mm form?

They only come in 120mm I think.

They are relatively new so there is not much data out there but, TTL reviewed them and said that they are better than the AP-15's.

Static pressure = the pressure at which Air is pushed, the higher the better they perform when air flow is restricted

I saw that vid, too. But he was talking about the Bitfenix fans, not the APs. And I don't need them to be dead silent because the APs are already dead silent themselves.

I also need proof. Just because Tom said it was better doesn't mean it is.

I have the Ap-15s (11 of them on rads) and on 12v they are not quiet, whereas a friend of mine has the noctuas and they are surprisingly quiet and do move a lot of air @ 12v and are still quiet in rads.

The 120mm AP's and the NF F12's are identical when it comes to noise (according to the manufacturers sites), but the Noctua's shift more air. Other fans to consider are the Akasa Apache's, they have a very similar direct flow system like the Noctua's do and very similar specs too, but they cost less and they look better too imo

EDIT: The Noctua NF-S12B would be a great choice if you want quietness but want to shift good amounts of air

hi, let me restart this topic, i m interested about this case, and i want to replace its fans too, as i can read the noctua's fans are the best for intake and exaust air being quiet same time too, as i can see there are more than one types

for example:

NF-S12B FLX , NOCTUA NF-S12B ULN , NOCTUA NF-P12 NOCTUA NF-P12 PWM,

which one is best for the front (intake) of the case and which one for the back(exaust)?

let me add the detail that my case will have only 2 120mm infront and one 120mm back (including the H60), i want to build a silent case, if this can be done...i hope so

for case flow, i would not use the noctua nf-f12 fans. even their website says the

nf-s12b flx is a better case fan in case ventalation and quietness. bitfenix spectre,

silverstone ap-12 and fractal pro 120 are quite good. as for side fan, i'd say

no, for your grapx card selection isn't that warm. the rear 140 phantek has a narly

unit.

pretty much the same order, nf-p12 in front and nf-f12 for the H60 exhaust.
