Redundant PSU

Hi all,

For my rig I'd like to use Corsair 1200i PSU.

However I'd like to have some form of failover as I may end up running the rig 24/7 in some cases for various reasons.

So it got me thinking I need to have my own redundant PSU system.

Basically I want to know how maybe I can do that and also if my idea may work.

My idea is to create a number of my own 'Y' cables that take say two PCI power and make it into one PCI and have that connect to say a GPU. So if one fails it pulls the power from the other. Is there anything wrong with this logic? And if so how else can I do it?

Cheers in advance and hopefully we can come up with something.

I'm no electrical engineer but my alarm senses are going off. I reckon get a UPS if you're that bothered.

uhm. wat?
anyways, just some y cables won't cut it. you need some sort of detection for the amp drop which then activates the second PSU, else you will fry your rig. a darn lot of work.
i would recommend not doing that, the ax1200i is a great PSU and won't die anytime soon. and even if it does, a day off time won't be the end of the world either.

Yeah I never thought the Y cable was the best idea.

The UPS does not make it a redundant system.

I am more worried about it dying during a process or rendering job.

Anyway - lets consider this a bad idea and let the thread die (unless someone comes up with a brilliant idea)

Its relegated to server configurations. It's not really worth the time and money. Just buy a single high quality PSU and a good UPS.
