Hey all, I'm a new registered member and I've been looking at this site for a few days now and I'm trying to figure out what PSU I need for this computer... The calculators just don't make sense in saying I need 700w for such a huge amount of components. Here are the specs:

Core i7 4770k - Want to OC to 4.5 or higher
MSI Z87-GD65
Corsair Vengeance PRO DDR3 1333 16gb (2x8gb) - Want to OC to 2400mhz
MSI N780 TF 3GD5/OC NIVIDIA GTX 780 Twin Frozr (I will get another to SLi in a couple months) - Slightly OC not much though
Creative Sound Blaster Z Series ZXR PCI-e x1
Western Digital 7200RPM 1TB HDD (Excess storage)
Corsair H110 Water Cooling
Antec DF-85 computer case (5 120mm Fans and 2 140mm fans)

I've been really confused about the PSU because the numbers are so jumpy, any insight would be much helpful since I will be purchasing Saturday! Thanks in advance!

Ok well don't take anything personally. Many new people seem to take it that way when us regulars criticize.

I7- depending on volts you can hit that clock and also depends on how much it will draw..

Ram- Running 1333 ram and plan on overclocking to 2400mhz? That won't happen.. Also corsair does not offer a 1333mhz PRO memory????

SLI- This is the main point you need to focus on for power. 2 780's will draw about 670watts. At LEAST a 750watt PSU is needed but even then that PSU will be struggling and be near it's max output quite often. 850watt would be much safer.

Also a Creative soundcard? No comment...

Welcome:)

Haha, I don't get upset, but I just read what's on the label from Newegg. Haha, well I guess an 850w psu will do for now. And yes a creative soundcard, because onboard is horrible and I've never bought a soundcard believe it or not. So I don't really know what the best bang for the buck is. Here is the link to the ram as well... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233538 Didn't realize it was 1600 not 1333, still going to grab it though, it's a good deal. Also matches my color scheme lol. I will just see how 1 780 runs and decide if I really want another.

Creative cards are crap and honestly are not that much better than onboard and will not be worth the price.

Other than that an 850watt PSU is what i would recommend.

Go for an Asus soundcard either a Dx D2x or if you can afford it the best card is the Xonar Essence Stx don't buy Creative as you WILL regret it

i bought a ZxR...... I regretted it. meant to be 100% compatible ASIO yea right! i was getting this high pitch screech through my headphones...... was the card zzz. My replacement being a Roland Octa-capture 192k External audio interface doesn't skip a beat best investment ever!
