Recommend me a motherboard

Hi,

I fried my Abit IN9-MAX.

Can you peeps recommend me a replacement/upgrade.

I wasn't particulary impressed by the abit mobo :(

Anyway, I was thinking of getting one that can run DDR3 and also DDR2 compatible.

Just as an idea, would the Asus Maximus Formula be a good choice?

Very few of the good boards will accept both DDR2 and 3. The ones that do are pretty limited in overclocking features (P5K-C is the only one i can think of off the top of my head).

Look into the Abit IP35-Pro, its a sleek, stable more refined board.

The Maximus is sposed to be good, just OTT imo. More options in the bios that the old SLI-DRs just confuses and theres far too much heatsinkage on there, again thats my opinion on it though.

Keep an eye out for the Lanparty DK models to, they're also shaping up rather nicely.

My Gigabyte 965P-DS3 is still going strong.

Never had any issues with it, overclocks well and is excellent value for money.

hmmm....

whats the best ddr2 mobo thats out at the mo for OCing?

i really cant decide as they seem all pretty similar to me

Wouldn't go for gigabyte for heavy overclocking.

If youve got/had and IN9 is it safe to say your willing to pay a fair amount?

And where are you based? (part of the world)

I'm in London and I'll prob be willing to pay about 150-70 quid depending on the board (I'll sell my in9-max after I RMA it, and wouldn't mind dishing 50quid or so).

I think it'll be a gd idea to get one that is also relatively future proof, but knwing how fast things move on it's quite difficult and somewhat pointless.

I guess I'm just looking for a replacement thats sort of in the same league as the abit i have now but can survive for a couple more years.

From what I can see the Asus Formula looks pretty good for OCing, and also seems cheaper for some reason.

Anyway I hate making these kinds of decisions!!

abit IP35 Pro & IX38 QuadGT.

I know that you say that you weren't that impressed by the IN9 32X but that's probably imo because 680i isn't a great platform no matter which mobo manufacturer.

If it didn't have SLI exclusivity nobody would buy nVidia chipsets for Intel CPUs.

actually reading around, the maximus boards seem overkill and DDR3-based X38 boards give literally no extra performance compared to what an Abit IP35 Pro can do.

So wait, am I downgrading to an IP35 Pro?

Can someone remind me again why I bought the IN9-MAX? I forgot.

How do you percive it as a downgrade?

P35 is a supiroir chipset to 680i, and tbh theres not much between the boards thats that different. Digi PWMs is all i can think of atm.

Thats what i mean! the P35 is superior! I'm downgrading in terms of price!! :yumyum:

If the IP35 Pro had come out before the IN9 I would have easily gotten that, saved 50quid.
