Recommend me a case to mount multiple HDD's

Hey all,

I have a little Antec 300 Case housing my media server. It's an old hand-me-down system, consisting of an ASUS P5Q Motherboard, Q6700, GTX 570 and 4gb ram. A modest system, but perfect for the task.

The problem I have is that it's quite limited space-wise for Hard Drives. Technically it could take NINE HDD's in total, so three in each of the dedicated 3.5" bays, and another three in the 5.25" bays using mounting kits. However, in reality there just isn't room when you include the other hardware & cables.

The GTX 570 - even though it's one of the shorter "HD" varients - effectively blocks an HDD bay, taking me down to 5 dedicated. Using the 5.25" bays seems like a good option, but it just isn't from a cabling perspective.

So, basically, I'm looking for a recommendation of a Full Tower case, that can mount NINE 3.5" Drives natively - so NOT requiring me to use any 5.25" bays it might have - while being roomy enough that it's an easy build and can be done TIDILY considering the number of SATA Power and Data cables that'll be in use.

While I do water cool my Gamer, water cooling ability isn't a high priority for this case, though the option for a reasonable 360 rad and res internally might be nice to keep the rig quiet.

The priorities for this build are SPACE, both for HDD's and tidy cable routing, fair air-flow as the hardware is currently all air-cooled, though I have blocks for everything if I choose to go that route. Pirice-wise, well the cheaper the better of course, but I'd rather not spend too much over £100 if I can help it.

So, what are peoples thoughts? Has anyone been particularly impressed with a case when doing a similar build themselves? If so, I'd be keen to hear about your experience.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Would the Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 be a good bet?
It has 11 x 2.5"/ 3.5" Internal, supports "graphic cards with a maximum length of 338mm when all HDD cages are used" and is stupidly quiet. Only issue really is rad support.

Hey,

Thanks for the suggestion barnsley.

@Tom: Yeah, I'm very demanding me...though, from the quick glance I've had, I'm actually pretty impressed with barnsleys suggestion - I plan to look a little more closely when I have a moment.

I mentioned nine drives more to give me options. I've done a couple of upgrades over the years where 3x1tb gets replaced with 3x2tb and, more recently, I did a 3x3tb move, keeping whatever I could still fit in the case of the highest capacity drives.

Now, I have an SSD for a system drive ready to go it - which essentially takes up NO space, as it'll likely fit vertically somewhere without issue. This makes the current 1tb system drive, available for pure data, the newer 3x 3tb drives remain as they are, and I can utilise other 2tb and 1tb drives for extra capacity too.

Oh, I picked up a half-way decent PCI-E to 4 port SATA r3 card a while back, so that'll be installed too and give me additional RAID options if I so desire.

It may seem a little silly to spend on a new case so I can use some of the spare lower (but still good) capacity drives I have. Obviously the same spend on another 3/4tb drive, replacing a lower capacity drive is an option too. However, more drive capacity now = more flexibility = me more satisfied with the build :)

Cheers,

I think you might be able to fit some in here:

Heh, I'm actually upgrading from one of those TheOuterOne, as I have several drives in a box unable to fit in my current case :)

Btw: checking for reviews of this case, I see Tom did one about a year ago for the "Nanoxia Deep Silence" - sans number - but this one appears to be a different varient, though the pricing is about the same.

Just doing some more research now, but it does look like a very good candidtate for my needs.
