READ FIRST: Help us to help you get the best advice.

User MacLeod had the great idea of adding a questionnaire-esque checklist to this section of the forums. The idea is to ensure that those asking for advice give enough details for other members to help them. This includes what they want, what money they have to spend, etc.

Following this guide is not a necessary requirement to posting in this section, but it does make things a whole lot easier for those trying to help. As such you may find less people wanting to answer your questions if your post is lacking enough information - the to-and-fro of requesting additional details soon becomes tiresome.

• Where are you located?
• What is your budget?
• Will you need a monitor, keyboard, and/or mouse included in that budget?
• Shall you be requiring an OS?
• What will you be using this rig for?
• If gaming, what resolution will you be playing at?
• Will you be overclocking?
• Do you need a full build or will you be reusing some old parts?

The aim here is to benefit everyone. Those asking questions shall have their answers more quickly, while those answering shall have all the information they need to give advice.

Feel as if a question should be added to the list, or any other amendment made? Post below so we can discuss it.

Oh, and just a quick note: This thread is not where you should be asking for advice. To ask questions submit your own thread. Any questions about new builds asked here shall be removed.

I know we can do canned replies, but is there a way to do a form or a canned thread? It would be really nice if when someone was making a thread in this section that a questionnaire could pop up. Probably a SuB question.

This is a brilliant idea, although possibly not worth the time that they would have to put into this :(

Also; is this thread going to stay open? I foresee nubs posting their problems in this thread cause they think they have to or that it's quicker.

yup should be cleaned of all posts after the OP and locked other wise it'll be a free for all

This would be excellent!

Get to it SuB! ^_^

deffo commands a "hurrumph" getting OP to list specifics does bet tiresome with
a quote and wait for response.. i hope this does catch on.
+1 fellas..

WOOHOO! One of my suggestions got thru! Ive been married for 10 years so Im used to not being paid much attention to.

Think it would be good to put "Please Read First" after this thread title? Since most people start threads here are new, seeing "please read first" in the title of the first thread might draw their attention and would make them more likely to click and read it before creating their thread.

And in the OP, add "Please cut and paste the below questions into your thread with the answers" right above those questions listed. Thats nice and simple and would be easy for anybody to do even if theyre posting from their phone like I usually am. :)

Great idea Josh and MacLeod,
I think it should be a sticky in the rig advice section, this would cut down the amount of posted questions and let members know up front what posters want for a system.

Title updated, though it's a prefix not a suffix to the original.
I'll leave telling people what to do until I've heard from SuB about what could work out otherwise.

Couple of steps ahead of you, Brohannes :)
And really this is all MacLeod's doing, this is his great idea!

Just to comment (haven't thought much about this one yet) but you know all those README files that everyone ignores?

Yeah, 'read first' never works ;)

It's just like EULA's that no-one ever reads

Exactly why we need to enforce it!

Yeah a lot of people won't read it but pretty much nobody will read it if it's just a random thread. (*Please Read First*) would draw more attention and make a few more people read it.
