Re-activating Windows 8.1 ?

So I swapped out motherboards due to my last one just dying, Literally just swapped one out for an identical one on my storage server/HTPC.

Boot up Windows and now my Windows install says it needs to be activated.

Does anyone know how I might do this ? I have my serial but have no idea what to do as when I input it, It says invalid.

Any help is appreciated

im not sure they are open at the weekends mate and rhe number i called said that the number had changed. I pushed a few automated ones and eventually it said to transfwr to a person. They then sent tme to a log me in page and took over. It took an age mate. Its a load of ass

I recently had to do the same... what I did is that I went into the activation part of Windows, where you insert the serial key you have and if it's invalid, there should be an option to get the number for them.

You might have to choose your country, which I did to Sweden, but it was closed when I called so they automatically changed me to an american one, after telling me on the phone "or hold to be switched to an English support", so I was on hold.... then there was like some Indie guy that answered.

The hard part was to actually say all the 5 x 10 numbers to him on the phone and then he tell you the generated number which he generated and that you should put it in, in order to activate it.

i have always just used the automated number "granted with older os's" you dial in the code on the screen and then they give you a activation number.

I have to ring up everytime I want to activate my license for Windows 8. Seemed I reached the threshold for online activation.

Each time the robot asks "On how many extra computers is this installed on? I go none.

I've tried activating windows over the telly as I couldn't get a laptop connect to the internet once. The guy on the phone working for MS Greece was super nice! Also he knows the whole NATO alphabet. He told me see if you can pull the phonetic aplhabet on your phone. Was kinda fun! ^_^

Did you say the correct key?, as it's a long fucking number to say lol...

Every time I've rang up it was always automated, never had to actually speak to someone.

Was a foreign female, I tried automated to no avail so I tried again without pressing anything and was put through to someone.
