Ram is underclocked on 890FX

Okay, I'm not all super duper into overclocking and extremely comp savy, so can someone explain in laymen's terms on what to do?

I have installed 4 gbs (2x2) of DDR3-1600 and it's only running at ~800mhs at 9-9-9-24.

The advertised latency is 7-8-7-24 (G.Skill Eco ram), however this is not an intel build. I'm on a Phenom II build.

Basically, how can I get the ram to run ATLEAST at 8-8-8-24 1600?

I'm not going to settle with ~800 at 9-9-9-24, haha.

Mobo is an 890FX, M4A89TD Pro/USB3 (Asus)

Thanks

go into the BIOS and look for DRAM settings/config you should be able to alter the timings there

or

look in CPU config and DRAM advanced settings

wait....it's running at 800 according to what ? the BIOS or cpu-z....because that is the correct figure for 1600 in cpu-z 800 (x2)....sorry if I am stating the obvious....please more information

also...getting past 1600 on an 890 is a stretch....you may bump that by a few figures, but you won't get the same mem controller performance as an intel chipset....

I wrestled with my 890 system for a month before I realized I was never really going to get past 1680 or so....

surprisingly I found my best read/write/copy/round trip latency at 1333 5-6-5-18 (on a 1090t)

the AMD memory controller is really finicky and wants to live at it's sweet spot...I have built 3 890 based systems so far, and each one was either a 1055 or 1090....they all used ADAT ram (after much testing with other brands) and all wound up sitting at different voltage/timing/fsb settings....and not just a few bumps here and there....we are talking WILDLY different settings

I ran one test with some corsair XMS3 1600cl7....and i could never get it to post at anything better than 8-8-8-24 1620...and it wouldn't dare do a thing at over 1.65 volts....

while the adata wanted 1.8 volts....

the AMD memory controller is it's weak link....

the intel stuff is much more consistent, predictable, and easier to work with

I think a large part of this is due to intels market share.....so basically the memory designers design around intel and really don't keep up with AMD's changing memory controllers....they have been especially slow to cater to the 890 chipsets....

check out the g-skill flares....they are specific to the AMD platform

I have had the best luck with ADAT xtreme 2.0 modules (even though they are designed around intel chipsets)

Yeah ram reports at its single rate speed in CPUZ/ID. Mine says 400mhz but you need to remember that DDRX = double data rate.

My board cannot auto detect my timings either, so I had to force set them. T'was a good thing too, as it's solved my stutter issues in really heavy games
