RAID for Rookies

Hi, thank you for taking the time to reply and for the instructions. I have Intel's SSD Toolbox V3.1.2 and when i click the "View Drive Information" nothing happens? I will download it again to see if it works and hopefully follow your instructions. Thanks again Glen Hi, I have entered what you said in "command prompt" and it is telling me DisableDeleteNotify = 0. If i understand you correctly that means that "Trim" is enabled? Thanks Glen

That does indeed mean that TRIM is supported in the OS yes :)

Now according to this article, SSD's in a RAID 0 will degrade the life expectancy of the drives. But M.2! Are they considered to be SSD's as well, cause if their not, it may be better to RAID 0 them with a better chance of no lifespan degration compared to an SSD.

And on another note, can you put 3 or more drives in a RAID 0 setup or with it only work with 2 drives. I know a RAID 1+0 will require a minimum of 3 drives. Which would probably be a better choice than RAID 0.

There's absolutely no point in doing a M.2 RAID0 even if you could. Considering you hardly can feel the difference from 550 mb/s (typical SATA3 SSD) to 2500 mb/s (PCIe 3.0 M.2). Even SATA3 SSD in RAID0 isn't going to make a huge difference (I tried it, it sucked).

If it's just to chain several SSD's together as one drive, you might as well just JBOD them using Windows Disk Management. But to answer your question: M.2 drives are SSD's yes.

Thank you for your input on this and thanks again for your quick reply. I'll then stick with a single M.2 not in RAID. That Samsung 960 Pro looks to be a pretty quick. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction.
