Radeon HD 3870-X2

Thing is 4 wont scale as well as 2 so two of these likely wont beat 2x ultras.

But IDK, their xfire always improves a lot over time so it may get better.

I knew I should have checked it, so much for being clever :(

heh okay I give up, I'm not fast enough to keep up with you guys after all :worship:

I wasn't having a go mate, just have a look in the relevant sections or do a search from the front page before starting new threads... It's nice to keep things in one place ;)

Yea, I think its because I never check the general forum, I had checked the graphics threads though, I'll remember to check that too next time :)

Awesome read Rast.

I'm in a bad place now! The GT was doing fine but not really up to my native res 1920x1600 with candy on.

The reviews I saw were the ones around, with the X2 beating the ultra ~25% or matching it...

This review paints a different picture with the GTX beating the X2. Min fps especially. Essentially the X2 cost me £150 to upgrade to. It is better across the board in everything than my GT but I'm feeling a phone call to the etailer coming on asking for a refund.

I imagine new drivers will make some gains but the X2 does feel inconsistant, the bane of dual gpu solutions...

Hmmmm. What to do...

Just found this on GPU review, explanation is :

"With 24 reviews found so far, I have found 7 sites that have been kind enough to provide the overclocking details of their HD 3870 X2s. I should point out that the reason that [H]ard|OCP and Legit Reviews got the same result is because the ATI Overdrive tool's core and memory sliders would not go beyond 878/955. Without further ado, I present you with my table of awesome."

So it seems it can overclock well if done right.
