r9 290 crossfire r9 390

Hi goodfolks,

Just wanted to get the question out there, is it possible to crossfire r9 290 4GB with today's r9 390 8GB. What are the results? Are we talking about tweaking the higher frequency card down?

If anyone haven't tried this already can you share your experience, with photos of the setup and benchmark. I already have a sapphire r9 290 4GB Vapor-X card and would like to buy a r9 390 card, would they work.

Yes you can CF a 290 with a 390 but the extra vram on the 390 will not be utilized you will effectively have 4gbs of vram when in crossfire mode

It will work, though the extra 4GB of vram on the R9 390 will be unused and you will not get any extra performance from the R9 390's higher core and memory speed unless the R9 290 is overclocked to match.

You would be better served with a second hand 290 off eBay tbh.
