R9 280X or gtx 760 4gb?

I am currently using a 560ti(1gb) and was looking into buying a new video card.
I was going to grab a 7950 on sale, but whenever i find a good deal they are always sold out. When 7950's arent on sale they are around $300usd, so i started looking into other options. One of my biggest concerns is that 2gb of vram isnt going to be enough. I want this card to last quite awhile. After looking at benchmarks, the 280x is clearly the better buy, but Amd and Nvidia both have new technology coming out, Mantle and Shadowplay. Both seem pretty relevant to me. When BF4 comes out, im going to be playing that a lot. At the same time i try to record gameplay when possible. I have also heard that Amd isnt giving out never settle bundles for the new cards yet. The bundle isnt a deal breaker for me, but it would be nice to get some free games. I have also heard that the 760's memory bus cant even handle 4gb of vram. Is that true?
Which card should i go with? I am open to suggestions. My budget is about $300usd(nothing over 315). Right now i use a 1080p screen for most things, and use a 1680x1050 screen for other things. But i would like to upgrade in the future. Thanks :)

280x over a 760 if you upgrade now. Not much more money and they overclock far better.

If you wait then i would advise waiting until the 780ti and 290/290x are released if it is within your budget(290 should be around 500$). Prices will drop slightly and bundles will be out most likely. Even if they are out of your budget the price drop may be worth it along with a few free games.

If you want to play BF4 then get at least a 3GB card, thats whats recommended and if your recording as well then I'm sure more would help!

You don't want to fork out and then the game doesn't work...unless your not bothered about it looking nice.

280x is faster out of the box and overclocks better. BF4 is also going to be an Never Settle title and so it will be optimized for AMD cards.

go for the R9 280x, it is the better card. nvidia cards with additional vram don't offer the best value (very premium given how few people need that much)

+1 for the 280x. The 760 is a great card but the 280x is slightly better. Shadow play sounds cool but its almost a guarantee that someone will come up with an alternative to it. As someone who records alot I admit, it is an awesome idea though.

Is the performance between the 760 and 280x that different? I think im sold on the 280x, but for some reason im wanting shadowplay. Which 280x model would you suggest?

EDIT: I know on some reviews people say the 280x destroys the 760. but on other reviews people say its very close.

It's true that the 760/770 can't utilize 4GB VRAM on its own. 2GB should be fine at 1080p. I run Skyrim at 1440p with shitloads of unoptimized textures and I'm fine with 3GB.

I vote 280X too but if you can find a 7970 for a lower price then just grab that one instead.

It's faster unless some game is Nvidia only and screws over AMD. But in the vast majority of games a 280x is faster and even in those horribly optimized AMD games a 280x would still match it and overclocking it will help too.

Sapphire Toxic R9 280x. Very close to being on par with the 780. Just ordered one, hopefully I can pick it up today.

I wouldn't bother with shadowplay tbh.. Do you have to install that nVidia experience crap to get it or can you get it standalone?

I believe you have to have the full Nvidia "experience" thingy. Its a shame as it is a good idea otherwise.

I almost got excited about it, but if it requires nVidia experience I'll probably pass. I've had nothing but problems with that.

Well i just saw the article on anandtech, about the price cuts of the 770 and 780.
Would a 770 be better then a 280x?

280x is faster than a 770. Only worth getting if cheaper(obviously) and most 280x's OC like crazy. A 280x is like a 7970Ghz card but even more binned; hence the higher clocks and performance.
