Quick News

Very nice, Hope the trend continues.

It will but I don't think it will make any difference.

Kinda long, but 100% bang on. AMD will never ever win the GPU war unless Nvidia got nuked or something lol.

True that but most games and most game devs are still using DX11 and that is what will win peoples money as AMD do fall behind in that area.

Just going back to this for a second. I have a feeling that the gap is so wide because the Fury is probably using Texture Cache for extra VRAM. As I discovered the other week it works very well. Sadly I also discovered that when it happens your FPS tank as it is actually using the hard drive. That is probably why the max FPS are reasonably good compared to the 1070, yet the minimums are horrible.

To be fair to AMD at least it works and doesn't crash your PC or reboot on you. There's always a down side though...

Having said that I have noticed that the very latest games are reasonably fine on the Fury X. I have maxed out JC3 with FXAA and the FPS are very good. I do get dips and the occasional stutter, but I got the exact same on my Titan X so it's more the game itself.

In 1080P DX11 on Battlefield 1 Ultra settings a 1070 is about 39FPS faster on average and 33FPS faster at 1440P Ultra settings, Those are the numbers people will look at and make a buying decision from.

Hmm, yeah, you're right. But it's not all doom and gloom. Black Ops III and Rainbow Six Siege show the Fury X beating or only slightly falling behind a 1070. These are very, very popular games.

Then you have Guru3D marking the Fury X only 3 FPS behind the 1070 at 1440p in The Division (at 4k it's parity). With DX12 coming that will shift to favouring AMD. That's three massive games showing the Fury X being competitive. And of course BF1 in DX12 shows parity as well or greater FPS than the 1070 and DX12 mode in BF1 is popular—though not as popular.

The biggest games that show the Fury X lagging are the games that always showed favour to nVidia: Fallout 4, Arma 3, GTA V, and The Witcher 3. Overwatch is really not worth mentioning because on AMD hardware you can still hit 144 FPS. It's really a moot point in this discussion—but it does obviously favour nVidia and that will persuade certain gamers.

According to the Steam survey, Total War Warhammer is also very popular. Fury X matches a 1070. Dark Souls III is still very popular and shows no extreme favouritism to nVidia. Battlefront prefers AMD.

In general I don't think it's all doom and gloom like some people (not you) are suggesting. Yeah, the biggest games that favour AMD (Gear of War 4, Deus Ex, Hitman, Ashes) are not on the Steam stats bar or are very low—either because they aren't available on Steam or because they're not popular enough—but all we need is a massive game like Battlefront 2 to succeed as much as BF1 and only be available in DX12 mode and that will be the major turning point.

What I have seen of recent update comparisons between the 480 and 1060, AMD have done a good job in closing the gap in DX11 with the new relive drivers, 1 I saw that didn't used the newest Nvidia drivers and not the new AMD ones so maybe they were a little biased

Singer George Micheal dead at just 53 what a shock

I'm quite sad as it goes. I liked Wham, and they were a part of my childhood.

Having said that it's terribly ironic. Last Christmas he gave you his heart, this Christmas he gave his life..

And apparently he had a bad heart too.

Can't say I'm surprised really with him going at n early like that, He abused drugs and drink for many years and there's only so much the body can take.

Cocaine is really bad for the heart. Puts years on it. Billy Mays died under similar circumstances.

Not sure if the damage was done when George was younger, or he kept on as he was older. Some have described him as a tortured soul, meaning maybe he was snorting powder in his older age.

I'm sad about this. I know the guy had his problems and so on but he was definitely a staple of my growing up. I've lost many heroes this year mainly due to them all being at a certain age but I was not expecting George to die this young.

Yeah, 2016 has definitely been a tough year for icons losing their lives. David Bowie, Lemmy, Alan Rickman, Gene Wilder, Prince, Leonard Cohen. Anton Yelchin was the same age as me.

Terrible... Carrie Fisher just passed away.

Earlier this week, George Micheal to passed away as well.

I gotta say I was expecting it. I figured there may had been some sort of miracle but when you are out for ten to fifteen with no oxygen bad things will happen :(

My wife's father had what he thought was heart burn. Ended up going to the hospital the next day, turns out he had a heart attack. They did what they could and sent him home. He died in bed two days later, in his sleep IIRC.

Heart attacks don't usually come in ones.

You are right to be. I remember when they were showing Bulldozer running at something stupid like 5.8ghz. Turns out it was LN2

Kinda cheating, but hey, none of us know how good it really is.

Yeah, it's all in the wording. Until we see reviews it's likely to not be true. I mean, 3.1Ghz base on an engineering sample to 5Ghz on air is a huge jump. If it's true why wouldn't AMD simply release the chip at something like 4Ghz if 5Ghz was so manageable. They even have a decent stock cooler to keep up with it.

There is reason to be hopeful though. Firstly AMD have spent ages playing with it and refining it. It's not like they released it as soon as Jim had left, they've spent about three years on it since so far !

Secondly they are binning to TDP and power use. That is very strict.. It all depends on what temps the chip runs at. That would be a good indicator of whether it was a turkey or not tbh. They haven't shown anything though...

It's got to be at least as good as a 5960x... I think..... :D
