Caseking have just stocked this, a retention bracket for delidded CPU's "for the best performance possible"

https://www.caseking.de/en/der8auer-haswell-skylake-oc-frame-fsd8-014.html

will that act as a shim so you can't crush the core?

From the product description:

"The outer edge of the der8auer OC frames is only about 0.1 mm below the silicon chip itself, whereby the latter is effectively protected against the tilting of the CPU cooler and thus protected from damage."

IIRC AMD solder their cpus.

Even then that'd be a horrible idea warranty wise cause people are just going to take it off not knowing what they're doing and attach a cooler on the bare CPU die without any aftermarket bracket or something.

Obviously it would only be on special "OC" models :p

AMDs stock has skyrocketed up(still hardly anything though considering it's trading at only $2 after the rise) on multiple rumors that Micorsoft is "Seriously Considering" about buying AMD. Also most surprisingly, Intel is also considering buying out AMD, and no Intel are no longer a monopoly, it would not be declined by the FTC. It's only a matter of IF AMD decide to sell. These reports are coming in after a few months back it was rumored MS and Samsung were interested in buying them out. Samsung currently is completely out of the rumored potential buyers list.

All this has gained momentum as AMD recently split their GPU Division into a sub division, Radeon Technologies Group, lead by the extremely talented Raja Koduri. Many experts and obviously investors, believe this is a pre-signal that AMD are readying themselves for an acquisition by another company.

I think MS would be the one more likely to buy out AMD. It would give them virtually 100% access to developing/designing there future consoles and get on board with AMDs technology and there involvements with software production such as OpenCL and HSA which could potentially make it's way into consoles but better Windows OS support as well. Also I believe they are more likely as Intel only has about $14.5Billion in cash while MS has nearly $100Billion in cash, meaning they would easily outbid Intel. Either way, giving them support with that Cash Infusion would mean they have far more to work with and could potentially revive the company back to it's glory days. Also finally get some more Driver devs and knock out driver updates more frequently!:p

It could still not happen because of the fear of a monopoly and then someone in the government declines the buy from MS

MS buying AMD wouldn't make a monopoly whatsoever. Same with Intel. Intel now competes with ARM, Samsung, Qualcom, and with the soon to be released IPad Pro, Apple as well. No one person makes a decision on the approval, it goes through the Senate(for really major buys) and FTC and whatever else they have now a days.

STAR WARS THEME PARKS ANNOUNCED!
Work on the two Star Wars theme parks in California and Florida is due to begin in 2016, Disney bosses have announced.
The areas will be the largest single-themed expansions in the company's history, according to Thomas Staggs, chief operating officer of Walt Disney Co.
The five-hectare parks will form part of the existing Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.
Fans of the sci-fi film franchise will be able to live out their Star Wars dreams as they fly the Millennium Falcon, visit a Star Wars cantina, and meet characters from the movies in the "immersive experience".
Disney chairman and chief executive Robert Iger has not revealed when the parks will be ready to open, but insists the new collaboration between Disney Parks and Star Wars will be "jaw-dropping".
He adds, "These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance."
The next installment of the sci-fi saga, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, starring Harrison Ford, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac, is due for release on 18 December.

Need For Speed delayed for PC

Need For Speed has been delayed for the PC until spring 2016...
Part of the conversation includes hearing from our PC community that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016. Our PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates will remain the same, starting November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide.

This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one.
so they need a few extra months for unlocked framerate and better visuals. Its a shame as I was really looking forward to it.

Massive pain. But at least they are taking this response seriously because unlocking a frame rate when not intended comes with some serious issues.

Wasn't it the last N4S that went twice as fast when you removed the 30fps framerate cap?

I do have a bit of faith in them this time though. The game has had a lot of love put into it and I don't think they'd risk throwing it away with a sloppy port.

If only they would open a theme park in the country where most of the star wars films were made lol.

Like really fast cut scenes :D That was a thing once, am I right?

Yup. If your physics system relies on there only being 33ms between frames then it's going to simulate twice as fast. Normally you would separate the physics from the rendering so it wouldn't do this but I guess they really weren't counting on people to remove the frame lock

Turns out its the same company (Ghost games) who will be handling the port. Here's hoping that they've learnt their lesson.

Aye, I remember they also had these in black and always looked quite good, but never really matched with anything. Although I guess the gold Asus boards could've worked :p

Microsoft Disables Safedisc DRM On Windows 7/8

Last month, Microsoft has disabled 2 of the old style DRMs, and subsequently the games that use them, on Windows 10. Games that use Securom and Safedisc no longer work on Windows 10 without a patch of some sort to remove the reliance on these draconian DRMs. This decision was made by Microsoft in response to security concerns, but as a side effect rendered hundreds of old games unplayable on the new operating system without players installing no-CD cracks or re-buying the games via modern digital distribution services which don't use the now-abandoned DRM. Now Microsoft have released a security patch that also removes support for the Safedisc DRM from Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The description for update '3086255' says that it "addresses a defense-in-depth update for the secdrv.sys driver, a third-party driver." It then explains how it addresses that problem: "The update turns off the service for the secdrv.sys driver. This may affect the ability to run some older games."

FYI, Microsoft has provided a workaround. Those interested in running such games will have to either temporarily turn on the service for the secdrv.sys driver by running certain commands, or by editing the registry.
