Questions about reformatting computer

Hi I am just about to reformat my computer (haven't done it for about 8 months). I had a boot disk error insert system disk in my other computer, I reformatted it, and now the same problem is on my gaming computer I'm not sure why. I figured a refortmat would be good for my computer to start off fresh. I also have a few questions:

How often do you reformat your computer?

1) I have about 4GB of movies and pictures that I would like to keep so that I can put them on my fresh computer is the easiest way to put it on a DVD-R? I would like to be able to just put all the files as they were on the new install.

2) I don't need to do anything to my BIOS do I? like upgrade it or anything?

3) I know I need to get the latest graphics drivers but what other drivers should I get?

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

AMD 3500+

Onboard audio

BFG 7800 GTX

I think thats all I had

1. i reformat as soon as the pc starts to get sluggish

2. yea a DVD would do it fine

3. no you dont NEED to update but if there is a new one out you might-aswell

4. all the drivers you can download off their sites. motherboard and sound sould be on the disc that came with the board and you can get the lastest nVidia ones on their site easily

LOL I'm due for a reformat. I usually try to do it every 4 months or so.

1) I usually keep stuff that I want to keep on a separate partition, so you only have to reformat C:. Or if they'll fit on a DVD then yeah burn them. I use a backup utility - Acronis true image, that has me up and running again in next to no time. It'll backup whatever you want it to, to a safe partition that Win or other progs can't touch. It also compresses everything if you want it to.

2)I wouldn't upgrade your BIOS unless it's misbehaving (don't fix it if it ain't broken)

3)motherboard drivers, latest AV updates, backup your steam game files (if you use it) etc

you cant really, there is a backup utility but it never works

just save your config.cfg file and your autobuy.txt file and transfer them to your new install.

As PV said. Partitioning is the best way to save data. I have two phyisical dirves so i dont actualy need them but its the same effect.

As for backing up your steam crap. What i do is save my entire steam apps folder onto my second drive (or other partition, if i only had one drive). Reformat then c&P it back. Its about 5GB, but as long as ur storage partition is big enough its the easyest way.
