Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen 3

CPU: Intel i7-2600 @3.5Ghz - slight overclock provided by Asus OC tool Turbo V

Windows 7 Power Setting: High Performance

i was running CPU-z recently and that it showed my CPU was only running at 1.6Ghz instead of 3.5Ghz.

i read elsewhere, if you disable C1E and Intel Speedstep (EIST) the cpu will run at it's full turbo boot speed all the time.

i disabled EIST and C1E and now CpU-z shows 4Ghz.

My question is, is it safe to have the CPU running at this speed all the time,

temp is 42 degrees and it is using the Intel stock cooler at 1370RPM

Yeah, it's safe, it'll just burn through your wallet a little more with the electricity bills

A nice overclock for a non-k skew, by the way! I didn't realise that such chips would be able to OC that much.

It is safe yes, but I dont know why you'd want to?

The speed step only slows your cpu down when you arent using anything. As soon as a program needs it it will go back up automatically, so you'll never notice a speed difference.

I'd just prefer it to be running cooler, and quieter rather than disabling that just so CPU-Z tells you your running at 4.5ghz or whatever.

Have you got the regular 2600???? If so i wouldn't overclock that thing at all, you have to increase the FSB to overclock it, and in my book that's a huge no, you could run into all sorts of problems down the line. I would put that thing back to stock if i was you.

Nothing wrong with running 4ghz+ 24/7 plenty of people do it, carry on my wayward son I say.
