Im thinking of buying a motherboard which is pci 3.0 ready
and im planning on buying the 3930k
does it support pci 3.0??????

The 3930k does support PCI-E 3 all x79 motherboards have PCI-E 3 lanes![]()
TTL did a PCI-E 3 vs PCI-E 2 comparison using a 3960X

No you will have to wait for Ivy Bridge-E
http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/Intel-Core-i7-3930K-Processor-(12M-Cache-3_20-GHz)?wapkw=3930k
besides that ivy bridge has 1155 pins
while the 2011 socket has 2011 pins
if you ask me i would say the more pins the better....
but i have no idea as this is going to be my first pc build
2011 has more pins because it is a larger CPU, more pins doesn't mean better though. 1366 CPUs have more pins than 1155 but most 1366 CPUs are slower than a 2500/600k, it's the architecture of the CPU that makes it what it is, not the amount of pins.
The bigger a CPU is though the more power it uses and the hotter it runs.
Not sure to be honest but Ivy Bridge CPUs on the information we have say the same, I think it's because unless you run them with a PCI-E 3 GPU they will only run as PCI-E 2, that's just a guess though.
I thought the PCI 3.0 boards had a third party chip on them to get PCI 3.0
Might be mistaking though !
hmmm ok then
but..... ivy bridge is 22 nm but what if you take ivy bridge and make it as big as 2011 socket
wouldnt that be more powerfull?

So In Theory , you haveto get a Ivy Bridge processor to get that 3.0 working . geting sandybridge E processor on Pci 3.0 Board wont do the job ... Is that correct . dam now m confused . But why thet launched Lga2011 socket motherboards saying they are 3.0 ready while we cant fix a Ivy bridge processor into that thing . for 3.0 go for a Ivy mobo and Ivy processor I get it . but Lga2011 motherboards says they are ready for 3.0 for no reason cuz we can just use it can we now .. M stuck now
2011 motherboards and SB-E CPUs are PCI-E 3, I did post a link to a review Tom did on PCI-E 3 vs PCI-E 2 above![]()
look at it this way its like hdd's they havent saturated the current specs yet so the newer specs are just for bragging rights. imho instead of upping the pci-e to 3.0 they shold of figured out how (without an additional chip) to make them have more than 1 pci-e 16x lane they all drop to x8 when running xfire or sli. and yes I know not much difference in x8 and x16
