Question about my friend's rig.

Hi there guys!

So a friend of mine has made the upgrade from the FX4100 with an HD7770 to the FX8320 with an HD7970. Now he has only put the GPU in, and he gets a lot lower FPS than another friend of mine who has an 3770k with an HD7950. Now I think this is about the FX4100 and they should put the FX8320 in and that would probably fix it. Though he is also thinking about sending the 8320 back and getting an 4770 (non k), and if he uses the 8320, he can't send it back.
So I told him that it probably is the 4100, with a possibility of it being the PSU (OCZ ModXStream 600w, I know :/), and I said I'd put it on OC3D just to be sure.
What do you guys think? :)
Thanks in advance!

Yeah it'll be the 4100 bottlenecking it, what games are they using for comparison? For the record my 8320 when it was stock ran everything with ease :D.

-edit- also, if they want to go intel route and only really use their pc for gaming, they should go for the i5 as it has roughly the same gaming performance as a i7 4770.

Give us the full specs and some figures.

Depending on which game the CPU shouldn't be holding the frame rate back massively.

Full specs are:
FX 4100 @ Stock (to be replaced with either the FX8320 or a haswell i5 or i7)
ASUS HD 7970 DCU2
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
OCZ ModXStream 600w PSU
128GB SSD, 1TB HDD (don't know what brand)
Corsair 300r
No Optical Drive (thank god)
Stock Cooler

Think it is the FX4100 though, game is Battlefield 3, so it's a multi-threaded game, which is probably why my friend with his i7 has 60fps ultra and the friend this thread is about "only" has 40FPS.

Throw in the 8320 and upgrade the PSU to something more reliable. Problem solved:p

I should mention an i3 CPU is faster than a 4100 so i would safely assume that his GPU is being bottlenecked.
