Quality overclocks from my FX53

Havent had a lot of time to test this setup yet, but what I have seen is simply stunning. It is without question the most powerful cpu I've had the pleasure to use, and it really is a pleasurable experience. Everything is smooth. My A64 setup was a tad disappointing in comparison, primarily because of the motherboard support, (and that out-performed my P4), but this rocks.

I'm going to volt mod my Asus SK8V to allow me 1.972 vcore (rather than 1.75)The Asus board tends to overvolt slightly also, so in reality this will give me 2v on the cpu. Even with the max at the moment, I am running @ 3ghz. It's not 100% stable, but its good enough for some benchmarks.

With a reasonable overclock on my 9800XT via the entry level waterchill setup, (472/398) I can get 24674 3dmarks. This is 1000 marks more than I could achieve with my best overclock on the gpu AND P4 cpu @ 4.2ghz! I still have lots of room for improvement on the gpu overclocks with this card. I might pelt it, or just add beter components - either way, I will break 25000 3dmarks with this setup.

Memory bandwidth is also a massive improvement over the single channel A64 setup - I get a shade over 6000 mb/s 1:1 with my ram at just 205mhz! Timings are excellent with my OCZ 3500 ECC 1GB - more to follow.

Thats cool mate - been a long term fan of AMD even though i started off as an Intel junkie!

Nice to see them leading the way just now - can't wait to see what sort of results you get with the new gfx card!

I have always been Intel myself, and I have to say this has surprised me - after a rather disappointing experience with my A64 3200 this has more than made up for it, and some. :)

I might have to dabble with a X800 Pro if I cant wait for the XT PE to appear.

I'm also going to upgrade my watercooling today, probably opting for a more powerful pump, and larger tubing. We'll see.

Very nice. You planning a s939 version of the setup once its released which is looking reasonably soon?

That's the plan eventually, but I want to see how the first 939 motherboards perform compared to this. I'm slightly sceptical, if the first revision nf3 250's are anything to go by. If they can provide a working apg/pci lock and allow you to run generic DDR rather than ECC then Intel should be extremely worried. I have heard that AMD plan to "lock" the multiplier on the FX chips - this would be disasterous.

its a nice CPU phil but a VERY heft price tag :P for the price of that CPU you can get a P2 3ghz SL6WK and a Mach2 cooling kit lol

I think AMD need to sort their prices out b4 this chip starts selling well tbh :P id quite like an AMD 64bit chip for my server just so I can see what its like :)

I knew you'd get a good clock with that setup Phil !!!!!!

Nice one mate.

That's another convert hehe.

I get 23258 from my A64 and 9800 pro 470/390 with a vga silencer and tweak monster ramsinks,9800pro should be good for 500 core whens my maze 4 shows up!
