Qualcomm and Samsung overtake AMD

Got this from a Dutch tech site;

AMD loses their #2 rank in the top 10 of the world's biggest processor suppliers. This is the first time since the '90s. Qualcomm has taken the #2 spot and Samsung (+ Apple) have taken #3. AMD is now on the #4 spot on the list. As you can see; the top 10 is being dominated by the ARM-platform while the x86 PC market is shrinking.

AMD has lost 21% of their marketshare while Intel has lost 1%. Intel is still the leader in the top 10, owning more than 65% of the marketshare. Qualcomm has had a 28% increase, giving them 9.4% of the marketshare at this point in time, while Samsung (+Apple) show the biggest growth with a massive 78% increase.

If you believe the doom and gloom predicted for the PC markets they'll probably overtake Intel at some stage too.

That depends. Iirc, Intel made Atom CPUs for phones as well. They can always expand on that.
I suppose it remains to be seen how successful Intel will be in the Smartphone world. They are late to the party and most of the mobile world has been built up around ARM. There's a lot of inertia for Intel to overcome.

Another thing to mention - those figures are revenue. A full blown x86 CPU is a lot more expensive than the ARM cpu that goes into Smartphones. Shipments would be the more interesting measure.

No surprise really with tablets and smartphone selling by the kazillions. Surprised Intel is still #1 actually.

This is why both Intel and AMD are trying their best to get into the mobile market more and more even at the expense of the PC segment.

Goldman sachs have been telling people to dump there AMD stocks the last few days.

That's how you know its a bunch of BS.

There's a massive spike in AMD's stock level coming and they want to make every last penny.

Ironic how it was a few days before Xbox ONE..

Yeah that GS "advice" was just ridiculous. Based on the decline of PC sales. Well considering AMD is making tons and tons of in roads into the mobile and now console gaming market not to mention their video cards selling like hotcakes, I cant see any reason to downgrade AMD's stock. Not saying its going to take off to astronomic heights but the constant drumbeat that its circling the drain just cant be more wrong.
