I know its out in the 3rd quarter of 2008 but does anyone have an idea of a more precise month/date for there release here in the uk?

Yep Bungral is right, as far as i know anyway, the Q9650 is exactly the same as the QX9650 (quad core, 3.0GHz, 1333MHz fsb, 12mb cache) but will have a locked multiplier and so be allot cheaper but can i find a release date for it other than 3rd Quater of 2008.... nope.

If its in july sometime thats fine but if it's september which is a long way off then i'm gonna go cry myself to sleep I've already been 4 months without a comp since mine died and kinda getting fed up of waiting now as this is the last bit of kit i have been hanging on for before buying my new rig.

so any ETA would be good to know.

To be honest mate I haven't seen any news on an exact release date. I wrote an article with the 3rd Q release but that's all I know and was the last I heard.

.. which is the same as a Q9450 with extra hertz as standard.

I`d get a Q9450 and clock the sucker. They gone down in price since I bought one tbh.

Is the price drop of intel's quad and dual core cpu's that's ment to happen tied in to the release of the the Q9650 and the E8600 or is that a seperate thing?

Really don't want to buy a CPU to find the next day could of got it for allot less :P

I've got a Q9450 clocked at 3.52 on a Gigabyte DQ6 board with water cooling and am very happy with it. As you know prices can drop very quickly at any time, so you either spend loads of money to be at the cutting edge for 3-6 months, or you stay 1 step behind but with tried and tested hardware and save a packet. If you need to get a new rig built get the Q9450 and you will be happy with it.

If you keep waiting you will never get it built, especially since Intel are notorious for putting back release dates according to how the market is going at the time. Just my opinion.

Essentially yeah but I'd expect the Q9650 to have a higher multi which could make life a little easier and perhaps it would clock higher.

But if it is much more expensive then probably not worth it.

Oh u mean like Q6600->Q6700, yeah could be. There`s probably a data chart around somewhere.

Well... I can vouch the Q6700 isn't that much better than a Q6600.. It does make life easier when you have very high clocked DDR2 as you have more options available to get a stable overclock.

But again it really depends on the price. The Q6700 wasn't even worth thinking about until it took a 50% cut recently.

Yep, so I picked one up oem :p

I see u sigging 9x403 on it. I was aiming for a fsb 333+ with some cheap memory.

(not bought a mobo for it yet.. or 9450 gets the new one and 6700 gets ip35 or something)

Well the 6700 I got had a pretty crappy VID so it's not the best clocker in the world. Can get it stable at 3.8GHz but the RAM needs to be clocked a little lower than stock to get it stable. Can boot in at 4GHz but that isn't stable. That's with pretty high volts too.

To get the RAM to a decent level I had to pull back the CPU to 3.6ish for 24/7

On a decent mobo, the 9450 should really go some. The multi shouldn't hold it back with the next high fsb mobos.

Stick it on a 10 multi and just slap the fbs to 350 with some cheap ram.. nice.

Ya I figured 10x, not so sure the ram will go much around 345 from previous experience, but it doesn`t concern me - it`s going to be the pc doing monkey work.

What it cost ya OEM from the states then?

You ever had to RMA anything you've bought in the States back to the UK?

Was a biscuit under $250 iirc at the time. £125 - pfft couldn`t argue. The Q6600 is something like $194 atm - which is nice. And the Q9450 is now $20 cheaper than I paid for the thing (bundled with World in Conflict too).

Had to RMA some corsair ram. Which wasn`t bad as I goto Tx every so many months, so I posted it to Ca whilst I was there, cost me something over $12 I think. And they managed to fedex it back to the uk b4 I got home!

So no bad experiences yet :p and I buy loads over there each time cos.. well it`d be silly not to and spend when u get back. Rather than save and spend in the uk, I`ll save and spend in the us to make it go further.

Some things aren`t as well priced as others, and to be fair I don`t think I`d buy a mobo outside of the uk for the rma reason alone.

Interesting stuff...

I'm holding out for the Q9650, can't wait, but yeah i think intel arn't in a rush to release it as it'll take the market away from there current line.

From what i've heard isn't it going to be a new stepping to E0??? That alone should be good news, and hopefully it'll be a lot cheaper than the QX9650.
