Q9450 unlocked multiplier

Sounds like someone doesnt know what they are talking about to me.

Intel chips have always been able to lower the multi but never go past whatever they were locked at to prevent easy overclocking.

I somehow doubt you have got one with an unlocked multi as you pay premium price for that.

Ok... ill be honest when i read locked multiplier of 8 i thought that i wont be able to decrease or increase obvisouly i was wrong lol

u should be able to get it to 9 as almost all intel cpus (dont use amd so i dont know about them) have it unlocked to 9. also idk if all mobos are like this but mine (evga 680i) lets u set the fsb and the mem seperately so if you just want to oc the cpu and not the ram (as i do since i use pc2-8500 ram) it lets you.

Na mate.. Q9450 is 100% locked to a multi of 8 and below.

i will try and put it on 9 2moro and see what happens :)

Is their a way to unlock this?

Nope. It WILL NOT go to 9. It will simply not accept the setting, and go straight back to 8.

People, a lot of us have already said it will not go higher than its locked multiplier.

IT WILL NOT GO TO 9, it will just reset. Try it if you want but it is a waste of your time.

lol :p ! is their a way to maybe flash it or mod the chip at all? i dunno what decides if its locked or unlocked apart from intel of course lol

There is no way that I know of.

It is hard wired into the chip.

mhhh lool...

We should be the first to find out!... imagine how much attention we (OC3d as a team) would get loool! we would be UBER GEEKS :p

Well as processors don't really have a bios/firmware to flash the software half of us are stuffed.

We also do not have the skills/eye sight to be able to figure out which IC controls the lock.

yea.... I Totally agree

all u need is the chip blueprints ic layouts and the like. it shouldnt be too hard to find provided you know the right ppl.

Costing time and money, there is no point as we can just clock the chip when it has the 8x and be happy with that.

thats sad wat happened to pushing the edge until it coudnt be pushed further then pushing it a little more. yes it would take time and money but show me one person who thinks it wouldnt be worth it to say " ya thats rite i was one of the ppl who unlocked a cpu". besides u show me one thing we computer junkies do that doesnt take time and money.

Thing is, if it takes too much time and money then ya might as well just by the Q9550 or the QX9650 and be done with it.

Time is money too.
