putting together a new computer

As of lately, some of you guys have noticed that i´ve been having a lot of problems with my current computer, so i´ve been thinking of putting together a brand new computer. I was thinking about buying a 6600GT video card, a P4 3,4 ghz processor, so the question is, what kind of Motherboard should i buy, and what about sound card?? I want a kick as computer (and no i´m not gonna buy an alienware computer lol). Need an ethernet card too of course, but it´s not that important which kind it is, is it?? So guys, what do u suggest??

What are you going to use the PC for? Gaming? Or heavy apps like Photoshop?

If gaming then I would get:

AMD 64 3000+/3200+

6800GT

OCZ Gold RAM

PSU: Tagan 580 SLi

Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY SLi-D (or an Ultra-D for cheaper)

The mobo has onboard LAN, onboard 8ch sound and basically rocks :D

kempez i totally agree except mabye on the ram he could instead get some Gskills TCCD based for a similar price

not sure about that HG007, gskill TCCd is some of the most expensive RAM available.

as kemp says stinky, you shouldnt need an ethernet card unless ur network is gigabut lan, and thinking about it the dfi mobo may have onboard gigabit lan.

another option for your psu is the hiper modular one which seems to be gettign really good reviews and is more of a budget psu.

go for the ultra-d if you dot intend to do sli, but if that could be an option for you in the future then it may be worth forking out that extra few quid for the sli-d.

6800gt's are getting cheaper and cheaper now, and so you could pick one up on a bargain, but as you say a 6600gt will save you a bit of money and is a great card.

:D

I thought that a Pentium 4 processor was the best for gaming? Kempez if i put together a computer like the one u describe, what kind of price range are we talking about?? I´m in school so don´t earn a lot of money ;( I have to save up some money first, and just wanted to get an idea about how long it will take me to do so.... Need a great gaming com as fast as possible

No - AMD's are far superior for gaming mate.

I dunno where you can buy parts mate, but prices in the UK are:

CPU: £130ish (for 3200+)

OCZ RAM: £120ish

DFI SLi-D: £120ish, Ultra-D: £90ish

6800GT: £180-200ish

PSU: £80ish

I'm assuming you have a case/HDD/DVD-RW and monitor/keyboard etc :D

I know Kustom can import to Denmark - but you'd have to ask them about the prices and stuff. They're not great for vid cards tho :(

This system is great value for money, and although its not the fastest system in the world, it would play games for a while to come...plu you could always add another vid card for more gaming performance :D

AMD = Gaming

Intel = Everything else (and gaming with no noticable difference between AMD)
Forever the eternal optimist, the patron saint of Intel lol :D

But in all seriousness, the system that kempez815 has described is very well rounded and will have you covered, for not a lot of cash. :)

Okay, those prices seem fair, it´s just a shame that i have to pay 25% of those prices in tax´es on top of that :( Never move to DK m8s. It sucks lol :p

I´ll check what those things will cost me here in denmark and post it later 2day ;) Of course i´ve godt HDD, DVD Burner, CD Burner etc. hehe ;)

Someone told me that it was a good idea to buy a harddisk to run windows only, with 10.000 rpm, is it true??

And about the Intel/Amd thingy, guess the guys in DK know jack shit about it, ´cause all i ever hear people talk about is that intel is the best processor for gaming.

Oh The Betrayal

You can indeed buy a WD Raptor 10k RPM and yes it will run Gaydows faster than normal drives. Also comes with a price-tag

Why would you get taxed importing from the EU? You shouldn't do...you're part of the EU arent you? :eh:

Have to disagree with your statement enVias.

Once again, I have to quote the benches....AMD is faster in everything except video encoding.

Also, PV's A64 put's out more points than his P4 HT.

PSU - i would strongly recommend a good quality psu like Enermax or OCZ. Trust me its completely worth the money.

Mobo - DFI NF4 UT Ultra-D

CPU - 3700+ Sandy

Memory - The Gskill FR/FC model lines are amazing for the price you pay for them. If you want tight latencies and would like to use the 4V voltage rail then the gskill GH/Mushkin redlines/Geil Ultra-x pc3200/ OCZ VX PC4000 are your options.

Video Card - X800XL / 6800 GT / 6800 Vanilla are your best bet in terms of bang for buck.

Sound Card - I have a creative Audigy ZS gamer and absolutely love it . You really cant go wrong with the top 5 creative model lineup. And what more , they have cleared up their drivers a LOT.

Yes we´re in the EU, so no we shouldn´t, but we do. If i buy a car in germany, than i gotta pay 25% of it´s price to get it. It´s something called "Moms" (in Danish), and it really sucks monkey balls. You don´t think about it when you buy something in Denmark, ´cause those s.o.b´s have already added the 25% to the price. For instance, A Geforce 6800GT costs about 300-400£ (Just Checked) in Denmark, but only about 200£ in the UK. It´s insane. Hmmm.. a lot of opinions about coms.... What to buy... what to buy???

Dave said even his celery was faster than his AMD in some things

|3ourne - the GSkillz lineup is very expensive here in the UK - at least £200 for the cheapest 1gb kit - thats why I reccomended the OCZ Gold or GEIL Value.

Its the same for the PSU: some people just can't afford the top-line OCZ or PCPnC ones - the Tagans a decent model - look at Jims :D
