Hey guys,

i have a prolimatech megashadow cooler.

My current fans are noisy at times.

I looking for fans that push a lot of air but at the same time are quite.

I heard noctua fan are good.

Can anyone suggest which other fans are great for my situation?

That's an oxymoron mate as such a thing will never exist.

Noctua are quiet but you will sacrifice CFM. If you want a lot of air moving it's going to make a noise sadly.

Remember, it's not the fan that makes the noise it's the air.

That is true. Which fan would you recommend that has a decent cfm?

I have come across the Xigmatek XLF-F1256, they have 61CFM and noise is <20dBA.

Is anyone using these and how good are they?

Don't believe what is printed on the manufacturer's site. Most of the time these noise values have zero to do with reality. If you want a quiet fan with good air flow, perhaps look at noctuas, but the CFM isn't great. I like the gentle typhoons which have pretty decent CFM, but aren't silent.

The best CFM to noise ratio will probably be found with 38mm thick fans, (technically 4000RPM deltas win this, but are unbelievably loud). If a manufacturer claims 66CFM for less than 20db, they are talking rubbish. Yate loons are generally pretty good value, and if you stick to low rpm ones are very quiet.

As Alien says though, the better CFM means more air noise.

I always visit here

And then select a size. They have a very well laid out and informative setup on their site that tells you the RPM and CFM very clearly.

Noctua NF-P12 shifts 54.3 CFM @ 1200 RPM. However, taking the RPM up to 1500 on other fans gets you roughly 65.

The Noctuas are very very good for quiet fans at shifting a lot of air. However as I said it sounds like you're looking for high performance fans in which case they are going to be noisy. Have a look on QuietPC even if you can't order from there (or don't want to because you can find them cheaper) as I found it to be a great way of seeing what does what.

Also remember that sometimes it doesn't matter how fast or loud or CFM the fan can shift. In some cases you reach a thermal brick wall and, well, it is what it is.

This is why I went Noctua all round. Basically for all the extra noise and all the extra fans the performance gains simply weren't worth it. I am now at half the noise I was making before and with all of my overclocks removed I have lost an insignificant ammount of Vantage points.

The table on quitepc.com was very helpful, i decided to go with the noctua fans and i have found them on ebay for £7.99 each
