PSU Advice Request

Good day everyone.

I am now on the hunt for a new power supply for a couple o' reasons, one being that ... recently I posted a thread relating to the fact that in the up coming future I will be upgrading to a HD 7950. I will overclocking the card also (Nothing super-crazy, gonna be using the cards 'come-with' cooler.)

Also my currently power supply is fairly aged now, I believe a solid 5-7 years have passed. It has developed more or less a constant buzz (un-noticable unless you have your head within 2 ft of the PSU)... However once every month or so it'll have it's "loud buzz" day.

So, with all the reasoning out of the way, here are my specs and requirements/preferences.

Main Consumption:

I5 760 @ 3.8GHz

HIS HD 5770 (practically stock) | -> Will eventually be a 7950.

Artic Freezer Pro 7 rv2

P7P55D-E LX Asus Mobo

8GB XMS3 Corsair @ 1600MHz (4x2)

Misc/Minor Consumption:

1x 200m+ NZXT Fan (don't remember specific dimension, but it's over 200)

2x 120m NZXT Fan

(Controlled via fan controller that comes w/ NZXT Phantom Enthu.)

1x Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD

1x DVD Rom whats-it.

Current PSU: Hiper 580w Type M (75% eff)

My Preferences / Req for New PSU:

Req - Enough to support a 7950 with the system above (I will not be upgrading for a LONG time, nor will I do CF)

Pref - Nothing drastically over what I really need. Sure a tad of headroom is a nice peace of mind, but like 300w over what I need is a bit far (in my opinion)

Pref - Mainly White (really not important, just would suit case)

Doesn't matter whether it's modular / semi mod / normal

Pref - If it's non-modular: I dont want a huge excess of cables, with the current setup, all that is spare is 1x 4pin.

Noise doesn't matter, so long as it doesn't sound like a hovercraft (or even lifts my computer off the floor with pure thrust

)

Wattage - ?

Pref/Budget: £90 At absolute tops

More than likely future additions:

1x 120m / 140m Case fan

1x 200m+ Case fan

1x 1-2 Metre LED strip

Sorry for the worlds longest PSU seeking thread ever, but I haven't really looked at PSU's or kept in the loop for the last 7 years-ish. So I'm not all up to date on the special gizmos and whats-its

Thanks in advance.

You NEVER want to skimp out on the PSU, this is the most important thing in your rig. If you find one on sale thats fine but do not get a cheap PSU. They do not last long and they are meant for low end machines. Also a good PSU can last you FOREVER if you take care of it! The PSU is what can kill every part in your computer.

AX or HX 750 or since ya said white look at the Hale 750watter and as said never skimp on psu you'll learn to regret it. &50 is about 200ish more than ya need but with the corsair Ax series thats good cause the fan will hardly ever spin with its hybrid fan control that makes it not spin 50% spin or 100% spin depending on load. I have the AX850 and only time my fan spins is in self test booting or powering down rig.

I'm fully aware not to skimp out on a PSU. (thanks anyway, it is wise advice). However the point that I was trying to get across is.. Is there a decent PSU within my budget, rather than - is there a 1000w cheap PSU for £90 (Do you get me?)

8 Years ago when we almost had a house fire, due to a cheap PSU that came pre-installed for a family PC, opened my eyes to ensuring decent quality. (I didn't pick the PSU, it's what came-with, I also wasn't involved with the PC decision making)

So yeah like I said I may have written it wrong.. Let me try and sum it up simpler

Is there a decent psu within £90 that can comfortably power the specs above (Minus 5770 | Plus 7950)

Apologies if this post comes across as arrogant, It was hard to put what I meant into words without sounding this way... I really do appreciate all help.

Antec HCG 750w is on sale at Currys/PC World. £55 instead of the usual ~£100. I'd been looking to get the 620w for myself for £40 but those are OOS - I'm looking to get the 750, but even that might go OOS soon as well, just to let you know!

Ill sell you my BFG1000w modular

it's old but it was and still is top notch. unfortunately it was not designed to take the load of a 6990 so it whined a little with it in. but it is great for single cards in sli or xfire. it's a 3 year old PSU.

BFG RIP

the corsar series is my recommendation ( out of personal experience )

what type of wattage not sure , ull have to calculate that but id suggest going for the AX series their very good , low power consumption , and economic

Coxey - just a fyi in case you were even considering the HCG, the price went back to £110 today. I bagged the very last one at £55

@dukeReinhardt

Ah right, nice to know. I think I'm gonna hold off for a little while longer until I upgrade my PSU & Graphics card.

For now I'm going to have to postpone the upgrades for now, however I'll keep in mind some things mentioned here.

Thanks for your help(s?).
