PSN Down

Ok guys this just got serious, have a look at this.

important Reed this if you are a PS3 owner and user.

[font="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"]Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer,

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please check www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams

Sony Network Entertainment Europe Limited (formerly known as PlayStation Network Europe Limited) is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited the data controller for PlayStation Network/Qriocity personal data.

billing info resides on the PS3 unit - not the server. transactions happen in the same way as they do when purchasing from any other secure network.

those of us who have a PS3 know that the PSN login username and password is NOT the same as the password needed to access and change your billing details.

pure propoganda!

this was taken from a comment on a blog - anyone can write rubbish on these things... do not believe the nonsense

i would like to think that these hackers wont start publishing PSN gamer details, they have done what they wanted to do in brining down PSN and embarrased Sony. If they were to extend their attack and go after PSN users and start publishing PSN users details (if they have them), then they will be turning the users against them and any backing the hackers have from users (if any) will be completely lost

i think sony are just covering there backsides saying keep an eye on you credit cards etc

the only thing on my ps3 is my user name and password i never purchased any dlc for ps3 if it was x360 then i would worry as i buy tons of dlc with my card...

If you open your eyes you can see i got that info of there official blog. Hold on i'll ring Sky news and CNN and tell them this information is rubbish then.

good job ive never bought anything off mine...bloody hell sony, this is gonna be one hell of a ball ache for you!

sony should have had a secure network in the first place. they are to blame for lax security and i will sue them in local courts if any ones get my info.

I'm sure Sony did have a secure network it would not have been that easy to hack and who ever did hack it must be pretty good. Hackers have hacked the pentagon, CIA and other top secret government agencies and they have the most secure networks in the world and the people who can hack those must laugh at networks like PSN.

Apparently in the User Agreement somewhere Sony is absolved of responsibility if PSN goes down like this, so I'm not too sure legal action is going to work out.

somebody has sold some details for sure. And Im pretty sure they are targetting people they can google.

For instance I havent had anything happen at all. But My girlfriends Cousin Is Arthur Parsons lead games desighner for TT games. And he got over 137,000 emails in 1 day. I think they are searching names and hitting the ones they get a response from.

If they hold your credit card details and then some one gets hold of them they are directly responsible no matter what they stick in a agreement.

It's crazy stuff, I read they have lost 77 million user details

I will be keeping a very close eye on my account.......

Well regardless, there will be one winner out of all of this. XBOX360.

The Japanese are really getting screwed lately, The false claims of faulty accelerators on the Toyota.

Mother nature doing a Godzilla attack on them and now at a bad time the hackers attack a Japanese company.

If you want to hack someone there are much better targets such as North Korea.

I finally got my email today from Sony warning me of all the stuff that has been on the news for days!!! The thing is, I have never won the lottery and the chances are 1 in 14 million, so with a 1 in 77 million chance of having my bank emptied (more than what it is) I think it is nothing to lose sleep over (YET).
