The processor in Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console will support Apple's Mac OS X Tiger operating system according to a recent posting to Sony's UK website. The highly anticipated successor to the PlayStation 2 is expected to hit the streets in 2006, shortly after Microsoft releases its rival XBox 360 system. "Sony is expected to offer optional hard drives for the PlayStation 3 with potential memory capacity of 80 or 120 GB. It remains to be decided whether the standard version of the PS3 will come complete with a hard drive," reads a company statement. "The operating system has also yet to be clarified. The integrated Cell processor will be able to support a variety of operating systems (such as Linux or Apple's Tiger)."

This shouldn't be that surprising that it can ran MAC OSX after all it's Cell processor has been derived from IBM's PowerPC which are used on Apple's computers.

Overall this could become a replacement to computers or macs for some people. Mouse and a Keyboard will probably be supported via usb so this could be like a normal Mac. Infact it would be the best mac possible till now because it's cpu and vga is the best and it would also support games not like normal mac computers

running OSX ;)

If this is actually true then I've switched my allegiance to PS3'dom... I'll wait till we get reliable information from Sony before I go all apeshit over the PS3 though :p

but i think you wont get newer version of OSX other than the tiger to run properly on your PS3 because remember Apple isn't going to use IBM anymore but they are going for intel next year so the new os which will be compatible with the intel processors wont work on the ps3's ibm processor ;)

That fine with me. If I can get a fully funcioning media centre for about £300ish with MAC OSX then damn straight I'm getting the PS3. And it would play all the PS3 luverley games that are on their way :D

all future OSX releases will <apparently> be in universal binary format .... WORKS ON BOTH x86 and PPC
