Project V1

starting build on monday (fingers crossed) so I'll post pics of it's progression!!!

iiDazz - neither can I, just hope the Q6600 is as good as the rumours!!!

Im not planning on OC'ing right now, But some time in the Future Hopefully, its only at 2.40Ghz So will end up OC'ing :)

An eventful day!!!!

Started at 10am just about to hit the sack (now midnight) after spending all day fiddling around with the PC it's now got Vista installed, all drivers updated etc.

About to install Kasperspy Internet Suite 2009 trial so I can hook up to the web safely but have just come across my first learning curve with vista 64-bit!!!! Which folder for program installations? Native 32bit not native 32bit who knows beeeeeeen a long day!

Problems during the build!

Several:

1. Installing the arctic freezer 7 pro - hurdle number one - I don't know why but I found it difficult to fit ended up bending the legs very slightly (couple of mm) for some reason it was a very very tight fit

2. Whilst fixing the motherboard to the chasis managed to drop a screw behind the mobo and it got stuck midway down (Out come the 7 screws i'd just put in) attempt number 2 begins

3. Just installed the Graphics card finally and what do i realise I forgot to put in prior to the motherboard installation??? The little silver surround backplate for all the rear connectors! Out comes the motherboard for a second time!!!!

4. Sometime between problem 2 and 3 I realised the fitting the mamoth 9800GTX+ might pose a problem... it's covered up a SATA connector and also a chassis fan socket and probably numerous other connectors due to its massive size...

Shortly after 4. occured problem number 5. appeared - the fixing the GPU to the chasis... oh dear... to solve it required me to cut out one of the rear slots to allow space for GPU poke its head out the chasis (the part where the monitors connect) after much fiddling and swearing and cuts to various parts of my hands problem solved... the GPU now is being held in place to the chasis with two screws, one of which is wonky... see photos!

The next hurdle was cable management... before switching everything on I took to the task of making sure cables were nice and neat prior to launching into trying to overclock my Q6600, it's on air so will need max airflow... it's my first attempt and I'd love to hear what you guys think of my efforts (cablemanagement that is)...

Task for tomorrow - Put the panels onto the case, install Kasperspy and begin tinkering with the Q6600, would love to see 3.4ghz by tomorrow night but we'll see

Anyway enjoy the pictures comments welcome!

Thanks for looking

Wow, your spec is actually really similar to mine, P5Q-E is a cracking mobo not had any problems with mine, it recovers really well from a bad overclock and looks the business as well.

I know what you mean about fitting coolers- I was putting my rig together in a hurry and ended up rushing the stock cooler in because I really didn't want to bend any of the heatsink fins on my xigmatek or the northbridge cooler. Worst part is I'm lazy and I still haven't got round to fixing it! :o

Good luck with the OCing!
