Afternoon everyone!

I've been after building a PC for a while and finally will be biting the bullet at the beginning of Feb and building a new rig!

I've decided to go for the following:

Coolermaster CM-690 V2 Dominator Black Midi Tower Case with Mesh Top Panel w/o PSU

£58.72

Asus P6T Deluxe, Intel X58, Sok 1366, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 1066/1333/1600(OC), SAS/SATAII, ATX

£238.61

Intel i7 920, Socket 1366 (B), Nehalem, 2.66GHz, Cache 8MB, Retail

£239.40

Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366RT 120mm heat sink KIT for Intel1366 CPU inc 1600RPM fan

£52.31

896MB XFX GTX 260 Black, 2300MHz GDDR3, GPU 666MHz, 216 Cores, 2xDL DVI-I + Far Cry 2 + FREE voucher

£218.80

6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 8, DHX, EPP

£193.34

520W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU, ATX, EPS12V, whisper quiet, 5 year warranty

£79.95

500 GB Seagate ST3500320AS Barracuda 7200.11, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.5 ms

£43.54

Samsung SH-D163B/BEBE Black, 48x CD-ROM 16x DVD-ROM, SATA, OEM £12.02

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1* 64Bit 1Pk OEM (DVD)

£149.44

As i will be buying in around 2 weeks time I'll check the price of the GTX285's before I purchase a GTX260

I can't decide whether to go for:

3gb or 6gb of ram

520W or higher PSU as I might be getting a GTX285 (I'm after as quiet as possible PSU)

Total cost of build is

£1299.88

Does this offer a considerable performance upgrade over my original intention of getting:

Abit IP35 Pro XE

Q6600

XFX 9800GTX+

4gb DDR1066 Ram

Which would only cost £840?

Is the i7 build worth another £500???

yea definitely not looking for tri sli but I've heard the Gigabyte and Asus boards are good overclockers... hoping to get a decent OC on the 920

I'm still pondering as to whether now is the right time to pay a £500 premium for an i7 machine vs the Q6600

decision decisions

I use Q6600, big step to i7,btw its a good idea,

Q6600 enough for overclocked,i reach 3.2 GHz,with value mb,value ram,and stock cooler,

may it reach 5.5Ghz,if marry with the nice system,

Foxconn Renaissance?

V1 as it's aviation themed google Vspeeds or V1 :)

I intend to mod case in keeping with the theme but I'll initially get a CM690 to tide me over

Mmm i looked at Foxconn, i'm going to stick with Asus, Gigabyte or EVGA, most probably one of the first two...

thanks tony g

hmmm my wallet is thinking i7 but £500 ouch ;)

what PSU do you guys think if I opt for a GTX285?

I'm also think of going watercooled but at a much later date...
