Project TTM - Cosmos 1000

Hi,

This build is for a friend - he's registered on these forums as tomd.

The budget for it is £120 including the case which is the Cosmos 1000.

I got the Cosmos for £60 second hand, but it had been a little 'modded' before & I had to go to pick it up which I did today.

Dead line: August 4th!

The plan is to have a black interior, then black side panels and then the silver plastic parts to be orange.

It will then have watercooling installed to the CPU only.

To do:

Sand down painted side

Strip plastic off

Get plastic & door painted

Get grill made & new window cut (waterjet)

Powdercoat all interior & handles

Put plexi-glass in window

Re-assemble

Deliver personally

Help install watercooling

Right, here we go for the pics of the case as I got it:

I will show the progress as it happens, if I can persuade him then it might have some custom waterjet cut parts :)

Thanks,

Max

You can not paint a case for £60 mate unless you planning on buying a tin of dulux gloss and doing it with a brush

Just the silver bits are being painted (and not the sidepanel) it's being done as a favour, so just for the price of the paint. so there isn't a lot to paint and yes I know it's to do with the prep which takes the time, but I will be doing that so the painter has less to do :)

The inside will be powdercoated satin black.

wait budget was £120? after the case how much left do you have 0.0

edit: sorry lil sleepy missed £60 part :P

I do that a lot :p

It's a very tight budget, but should be doable, it's a very tight time schedual too, just got to hope for not many delays! I'll have the chance to put anything that isn't quite right right afterwards as I'm always adding bits to Toms computer :)

Get grill made & new window cut (waterjet)

this sound expensive...

you sure you can do it with £60? along with paint...

but wow £60 for a cosmos thats amazing where you find it?

Well it will be put in with some other things :) yer I should be able to do it :)

Here's some pictures of the watercooling kit, the budget on this was around £100 :)

I got the:

XSPC X20 Xtreme CPU Block

Swiftech 120mm x 2 Rad (I think)

DDC Pro Pump

Alphacool DDC Top

Orange 1/2" Tubing

EK 250 res - hopefully

2 x Aerocool Fans - may change for Xigmateks :)

This will be cooling an E5200 & maybe other things later on.

I'm currently dismantling the case slowly (with the last Cosmos I did I did it quickly but with this one I'm going slow - partly as my finger is still bandaged up from having an accident :)

The rad will be mounted up top with a custom rad grill - the case has space for 140mm fans up top so the 120mm fan spacing isnt normal which means extra work.

Thanks,

Max

Here's the case totally stripped down - apart from the drive holding parts - it took about 20 mins, just phones the painter and I can take the parts in and they will be ready for me to pick up 2 days later.

I will be putting it all in for powdercoat on the 29th which then should be ready to pick up on the 1st. On the 27th I will have the window & grill cut by the waterjet cutters, then put it all back together :)

Here's the case stripped down:

I also took that weird logo off the side & will be sanding that side down as it has been hand painted!

Question: Should I powdercoat the mount for the CPU block? or not? I can't decide!

Thanks,

Max

hehe i know where the pump came from :haha:

btw where did you get the case for £60?

Yer :)

I got it from Ebay, the postage was going to be £25 but I saved on it by picking it up :)

I will start work properly on this next weekend :)

It should hopefully all come together quickly.

It will hopefully look very nice at the end :)

Thanks,

Max
