Project Silence

Well a new motherboard is on the way (#3, not having the best of luck with these things), I'll include installation pics and an overclock vid when it comes in.

So I finally got my new motherboard in, which meant I had some more overclocking to do.

I managed to get a max of 5.3 GHz @1.48 volts(http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1650940), however this was only stable running super p., Not wanting to go above 1.5 volts, I bumped the overclock down to 5 GHz @1.46 volts (no post here for obvious reasons). I ran it in prime for about 20 minutes and then saw my temps spike up from 78-86 (already very high) for 95 at which point I turned the test off. (I don't have a great cooler, just a $10 Corsair A50)

I still doing a 4.6 GHz 24/7 overclock, however I've managed to bring the voltage down to 1.256 volts, with maxes around 65-70 in a closed case with fan spooled down, and 55 in an open case.

I'll post some pictures of the rig tomorrow, I still have a lot of cable management to do (Tom's latest video sure gave me an inventive).

More to come...

That's a good clock. Get a D-14, though

Nice overclock, has me laughing at your first post, I am not ognna OC but undervolt as I want the silence

Yeah, that's changed a bit. I bought a 4-pin fan for my cpu so the loudest things in my rig are now my harddrives. I'm running a 4.4GHz overclock at about 1.224 volts. I'm running prime right now testing it and I'll post a screenie when I'm finished.

I finally got my 4th and final motherboard (this is what my first board should have been) with B3 stepping. Which means I can finally plug in all my harddrives. I still have to do cable management (I held off until I got my final motherboard.)It's nice finally have this computer 100%, but it was very annoying to go through all the hassle created by the many problems I had.

I really hope you wont need to upgrade anytime soon, will be a bugger to remove the zip ties.

Love a nice tidy case.

I now have a small factor atx case so cable management is a bitch.

Agreed with that, I also have a small atx case with virtually no cable management features, many cable ties were used :L

What case are you using?? I am using a Lian Li PC A-06 have been trying to upload photos to my build log but keep getting error message in my browser.

Thanks for all your great comments on the cable management

That was true before but with my new fan on my CPU it's not. The loudest things in my rig are now the harddrives and I don't see SSDs coming down in price for a very long time.

I decided to downclock the overclock to 4.4GHz with this quieter fan. The result is something I that think really embodies the names.

Here's the result after the final (of quite a few failed) stability tests. 12 Hours of Prime

Load is 1.216 volts

And because this is an overclock using offset, idle is 0.792 volts

On this machine its actually unbranded

, so i couldn't say. Had to build this on a tiny budget, I picked it up in a local computer store for a bargain. It has no room behind the motherboard tray at all, but stupidly it has grommets to route cables through the back.
