So i decided to give my laptop (Lenovo T61) a boost in performance so that i can multitask without hickups.

at stock my core 2 duo cpu is 1.8ghz
After modding the bios to support dual ide (dual ide is a very early version of turbo boost) , my multiplier rised from x8 to x10, resulting in the cpu clock to rise from 1.8ghz to 2ghz. using throttlestop i made sure that all cores ran at 2ghz and i also lowered the voltage.

But that wasnt enough for me...

Now im modding the motherboard so that the fsb rises from 200mhz to 266mhz. the total overclock with 2 of the mods combined is going to be 2.4ghz (266x9), the ram speed will also rise, i hope my SPD's aren't locked.
edit: Correction: 266x10=2.6GHZ

Im currently at the modding stage, and my laptop is dissasembled

Its going to be a hard task putting it back togeather with so many diffrent screws mixed (also from other laptops)

To summerse, im overclocking my laptop from 1.8ghz to 2.6ghz on all cores

Its not a thinkpad if its not battlescared/covered in gaffa tape. ;) I'll be interested to see how well the motherboard cools itself, tbh that might be the issue.

One day i will solder evaga e-power vrm board into the motherboard of my laptop, and overclock it on dry ice :p

Edit: The motherboard on your X61s i think is the same as on my T61 :p

Lmao seems legit

I'd be interested to see if this works

it reminds me of when i was volt modding a gtx 9800

Will continiue with the project tomorrow. im having problem grounding bsel pin, the laptop won't post and i dont have volt meter either

its not posting, im going to try to flash ram to looser cas timings, bcause i suspect that the ram overclocks too much and thats the reason benhind why its not posting. i tried 4 sticks, none of them boot

Really hoping this works out for you. Hardware modding has always been too scary to me.

Oh, I saw you in Linus's stream last night too ;).

THE OVERCLOCK HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL! OVER 45% OVERCLOCK!

After tons of research, I managed to overclock my core 2 duo T7100 laptop cpu from 1.8ghz to 2.6GHZ. It was worth the risk!

Going sleep now, as soon as i wake up im benching

Left to do:
Install win xp for benching
Flash RAM timings
Submit benchmarks to HWbot
Mount a big desktop cooler
Overvolt the cpu
buy more cpus to bench!
Install SSD
DIY GTX 570 egpu

2.6 F*CKING JIGGAHERTZZZ?!!?! I thought you were only going for 2.4?! Looks like 200mhz is your number of the day ;)

Congrats man :D no.1 overclocker in my eyes ;) lets keep going!! 3GHZ? ;)

No problem, just get me some dry ice :D :p

266 fsb is the total limit for that chpset im afraid, so with that cpu, my overclock max is going to be 2.6ghz but i can buy a cpu that runs like 2.1ghz stock (Im too tired so dont blame me for not making calculations :p ) put it into my lappy and overclock it to 3ghz :p

Small update

Until i solve some dual ida problems, the laptop will run at 2.4ghz for multi threaded benchmarks and 2.6ghz for single threaded benchmarks.
With the fan set to 100% (still very quiet) under prime95 the max temp is 55c so theres plenty of headroom there, if i was going to get higeer clocked cpu and overclock it to 266fsb. The cpu is running at stock volts (1.175v) theres no need for overvolting. at 1.15v i get restarts in prime95 after some time.
The so-dimm ddr2 ram was originally running at 667 and now is overclocked to 886mhz 5-5-5-15 at stock voltage (1.8v). Im ready to run benchmarks

Here is how the laptop looks as of right now. portability is my last concern :p :

To be honest it (was) a high end pro laptop many years ago so you'd expect the cooling to be decent.
Still very decent OCing from a darn laptop :P

Also i have the version with the onboard x3300 intel (gma965) graphics so the gaming performance should get quite a bump not only because of the cpu overclock but also because i overclocked my ram which is the bottleneck which the onboard graphics uses from 667mhz to 880mhz
