Project Like New

While I didn't have internet due to moving into my uni house I decided to undergo a small project. I basically just wanted to take my computer apart, clean the case, and rebuild it again. I want the case to look like it was new. This was going to be a short project that ended up taking 4-5 days. for reasons which will become apparent.

Naturally I started by getting ready.

I just got the boxes out and my small tool kit.

I unplugged all the cables and removed the motherboard and cpu cooler.

I started to properly take it apart, removing all the panels and beginning to remove the hard drive cages. They confused me for a good while.

And for some unknown reason I took a picture of my psu and case fans.

So that left me with the bare case. I did not realise that there was a hole in the roof at the front above the 5.25" bays.

This is where my project became a bit depressing. As I was removing my CPU cooler. Part of the mounting system had snapped off. Rather than trying to ghetto mount it, I brought a new one.

This left me computerless for a few days. It's at this point I feel like I should leave it and bring you an update to this project, despite me having already finished. I also must apologise for any large pictures and picture quality. I only have my phone which I've had for three years.

Where is teh watercoolingz??

Now would a good time to hit the case with a spraygun or chop bits out of it...
Either works for me neh?

I'm a student can't afford watercooling, or at least proper watercooling. I'm tempted to cut a window into my side panel, but I don't have the tools to do that.

Wow, most threads are "here's my new build"

This one's "here's my new dismantle"

Seriously though it does no harm to strip down every down and again.
Unless you're at a childrens party, which I now realise was wrong of me :)

I guess I can make some kind of update now.

This beautiful thing arrived.

So naturally I got a bit excited and installed it out of the case.

Which I learned was a bad idea because i then couldn't screw in the screw above the ram slots on my mobo, so the top right corner of the board was floppy. I removed it and screwed it in.

So now with that slight mishap out of the way the rebuild is nearly done. Just have to do proper cable management. This is sort of where it's at.

yeh, i bought one of the side panels a few months ago for £15. the window in mine is scratched though so I'm considering replacing it, but I may just get a plain sheet of acrylic to put in the hole

But that fan grille >_<

I regularly take my pc completely dissemble my pc to clean it, and improve my cable management, it gets neater each time :)

I know completely what you mean about the fan grill, but due to support bars in the original side panel and the fan grills already in, it makes it very difficult to put any form window into it.
With this, the window is held in with plastic rivets which can easily be popped out, making it very easy to buy a new sheet of acrylic to put in

True, I've been dying to pop out the rivets on my colossus' window and pop a new one in :) I actually use the window fans as intakes though, so maybe i will just cut holes and dust filter them to quiet them down :P

Undeniably one of the best air coolers.....................In the World

Shame the fan cowlings are made from "Prosthetic limb beige" Seriosly, look it up in a colour chart.

Maybe rip em apart and give em a shot of electric blue to match some of your mobo components, Failing that then good old black will be just fine.

I would buy the the one collermaster makes already but I feel like a window should be free of fan grills.

Anyway, i have some more updates. Being the genius I am I forgot which drive was my boot drive. Thankfully I only have 2 drives, so narrowing down which was the correct one wasn't particularly hard.

So I've also got some cable management done. Done properly this time compared to what I did last time. I say properly, it can be neater round the back but honestly with the exception of the picture no one is going to look at it.

I'd love to re-do the back but I'd only do that if I individually sleeved the wires.

I think I'm going to save the "glamour" shots until later. I also want to know from you guys should I OC my CPU now that I have a brilliant cooler? If so, how far should I try and take it?
