Project Isotope (Peltier Cooled)

Been a while huh, ( my apologies! ) Hope everyone is doing Great!

So basically the time has come to rise past the "old" Quad core and move onto the 8 Threaded Beast.

For this new Rig I am going to build a semblance of the "Scan" Isotope Case,

the BIG brother version of it.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/3XS-Isotope-iX-Army-Case-ATX-without-PSU

Above is a link to what gave me an Idea for the Project.

The case is going to be made entirely out of Aluminum and some Acrylic Panels for LCD Displays ( Fan controllers Peltier Controllers etc )

Dimensions will be 37.6cm Wide ( From the Middle ) and from Tip to Tip it will be 74 cm Wide, 70cm Long AND 74cm High

Basically the Shape is a Prism With the "Face" in the shape of an X

I will soon be posting some schematics to get an Idea of what is going here.

As this whole project will probably take a month or more bare with me if the Post is updated slowly! I will try my best.

As for parts ( again dew to improvement depending on your Input hehe )

I7 Extreme Edition

6gb DDR3 2000 Mhz

SSD x 4 120 GB in Raid 0

Motherboard ( very uncertain at this time )

PSU x 2 1200 Watt ( x1 For Peltier Cells )

GPU 4890 X 2 In Cross Fire ( Still Deciding for some reason ALL my ATI cards have preformed better then any Nvidia Card I had )

Did I mention the entire system will be dunked in Non conductive fluid and the peltier cells will be keeping the Fluid at about -20 Degs.

Sounds sketchy from an outsiders point of view probably but you will start seeing it come together soon!

Let the discussion Begin :D

This sounds nuts, dont want to sound too weird but ill believe it when I see it....Will be amazing if the execution of this is done right...

Sounds... Expensive :D

If you need any help before building (designing), drop me a PM. I might be able to help with some CAD drawings etc. :)

Have been CADing a bit.. Do you have any idea how HUGE this case is going to be?

xcase_acad.jpg

No, that motherboard is not miniITX, it's full ATX.

Lmao too monkey with the mobo being a ant compared to the case and umm if you actually do this you'll be the first to do a submerrsion on OC3D wont you?

Love the Graphic you made :D.

Yeah I know it is a bit insane but I will be needing all the space due to the container which will be Holding all the Fluid Inside. Aside from that, the peltier cells need their own radiators + extensive Moisture prevention Etc. The ones I am looking at are 400 W Rated and Work at -60 cold side and 160 Degs for the Hot side. I won't be using all 4 at their Maximum power of course. I just like to use this kind of equipment at Half power ( which will be enough ) also making them last longer.

Besides having to have enough space for 2 or more ( hopefully not ) Power Supplies I also need space for the Peltier Controller ( again hopefully not controllers :P ). Still have to do a bit of tinkering with the Peltier Design.

Right now I am In Aussie Land :P... Been here for 2 months Nice holiday and a break of sorts. Soon as I get back to Malta il start ordering the parts :D.

Forgive the delay of messages as I am using my N80 EeePC to use the net and stuff so its pretty random with cafe's etc.

Also thanks for the Offer about the Design might just take it up soon :D right now my Girlfriend is drawing up some schematics she is quite the artist hehe ( although its usually dragons and mythical stuff :P )

Quick note just realized that I did not answer the Mobo question. Well since I do think this project will take a good month probably more!. Plus I have to order everything from abroad except the aluminum hah :P. By the time I am done there might be something new?

What do you guys suggest currently? To go with the Parts I listed.

If you want some more drawings, give me sketches/images and sizes of the used components and I'll start drawing :) Assumed I have time.

My brother also suggested you are going to need some serious insulation. Might be an idea to use two walls, twice 2mm aluminium with about a cm in between. Then fill the cm with the wool like insulation material used for house roofs. The windows could be insulated by using the double or maybe even triple glass effect, with ~2mm of air between it every time.

Edit: On the parts side of things, I'd say go with -no one's expecting this probably- the P6T6 workstation made by Asus. It's a good clocker and has 6 PCI-e slots of which 4 can run at x16 mode if I remember correctly. For those SSD's you will need an external (PCI-e x8 probably) RAID controller because the ICH10 will most probably not keep up and what's a rig like this without two or three kickass graphics cards?

That mothboard sounds fantastic 4 x16 PCI-e Slots :D. You are also right about the Raid Controller. I highly doubt the motherboard will support the Read and write speeds I will be aiming at. I will have a look at the Asus workstation thanks :D. As I am more into the technical part of things you guys might have to help me when I put it all together :P.

( Actually I do have some sketches done by my Gf but cant put them up dew to crappy net here. If you gave me your e-mail I could probs send em straight to ya would be very cool :D )

You've got mail. Well, you're getting mail after I posted this.

Building the case could be a pain in the back end, especially the insulation and getting it watertight. But with some good planning and improvisation everything should end up all right :)

What kind of tools do you have / could you get?

Tools. hmm Well I have a dremel, need to get a welder ahh the smell of freshly joined Aluminium :P.....Sander, got a bench with circular blade for cutting. Soldering Iron probs gonna be used a lot. Bench Drill...and a whole range of hand held tools.

Oh and Chainsaw...but thats just incase everything decides to fail on me....

Which it won't ( has staring contest with destiny )

The above was done for me by Monkey 7 :D

The Above is a Front view of the Container which will be holding the Motherboard submersed in Transformer Oil

Very Basic view of the Case, also some dimensions. Note that holes for drive bays, fans etc are not yet implemented.

A basic 3d Image of what the case will look like, again very basic just the shell, motherboard tray and handle.

Hah, we ended up changing the shape completely... and ended up with an Octagon. Will post some pictures asap. I know you guys prefer real life pics instead of these sketches ... sorry for now folks :P
