Project: Cooling Tower

This all started because if was fed up with my previous case, (Project Ov3rKill) which was acrylic and it just looked so out of place and tacky. So I decided it was time to get myself a new one.

After browsing around I came across the Lian Li A70A Silver full tower Case.

I fell in love, the space, the size, the colour and its potential not to mention space for upgrade later on.

So after much saving, I got one. and now 1 month later the case is near completion.

I was not going for an all out rig, just something that looked, neat and bold at the same time.

Please bare in mind this case is not finished yet

I will have some photos of the build later on once I have the rest of my components.

So here is what I had:

Lian Li A70A

Coolplex AGB4 380mm Reservoir.

2x XFX GeForce 7900GS

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

4x GEIL 512MB DDR2 RAM

OCZ 500w ModXStream Modular PSU

5x Scythe Kaze Jyuni 120mm 1900RPM Fans

Laing DDC-1Plus Ultra Pump 18W with XSPC Blue Top

and a Black Ice GTS 360 blue.

First I cut the radiator hole in the top panel, shortly followed by 14 screw holes.

Then I cut the two holes in the top panel where the pipes where going to come out for the reservoir.

Mounted the reservoir and then fans and radiator.

Next I drilled two holes in the bottom of the case, pushed screws through, put rubber spacers on them then mounted the pump on those, followed by two more rubber spacers then the nuts.

Fitted the rest of the components and then away we went. Here is what I ended up with:

I think the tubing is abit ott tbh, you really should keep the loops short and tight, as the pump has to work its nutz off pumping all that hose. Id have put the pump in the 5.25 bays I think.

Get a grill on that rad to cover up the cuts, and rework the loop, will make a massive difference.

Look quite nice but imo you should keep that res inside the case and move the pump just infront of those HDD cage so its mean water less travel=more cooling effective. Nice looking case thouggh.

Hi guys, i'll try and answer your Q's.

The rad will get a custom made grill as soon as I have some free time, the cut was very quickly done and all I had was a Jigsaw and was very difficult to do.

The reservoir is on the outside due to space restrictions in side the case, putting it in the case would have made it very difficult to place other items, especially when I put 2x GeForce 295 in there.

Atm the reservoir is not in its final place as you can tell by the second holder towards the rear, once I have some more tubing, it will be cut properly and all the tubes will be resized accordingly.

I have positioned the pump in such a place it will gravity fed by the reservoir which will give a huge boost to pump performance.

It helps but not that much mate, anywhere under it is gravity fed, the actual distance makes no difference as its a sealed loop.

Jig saw isnt that bad you just need to drill loads of holes and cut short lengths. Thats how to do the side of the fans you missed, remember to file it all after aswell.

Of course mate, the case is only half done, lots of things need tidying.

File down the edges, rubber grommets for the pipe holes, more tubing needed, reposition the res and make a fan grill.
