Progress Report

I just change the CPU clocks and voltages to stock and volts sub stock, Change max usage to 99% in the control panel, Put all the sliders to the left in Afterburner for the GPU and then leave it on overnight.

Tried with the overclocks on but it doesn't make that much difference for the amount of extra fan noise and heat output.

Yeah similar - I leave my CPU as it's cooled by an H100 so makes no difference.
I have a saved profile set up for folding on the GPU's but they do throw out some heat. Our apartment is super energy efficient so you notice any extra heat source.

It's a shame that you can't control the GPU's the same way you can control the CPU in the folding client. Would be nice to just set it to fold on idle or at 50% etc.

edit -
Got all excited, up and running client kicked in and temps shot through the roof. Will have to do some checking this weekend to see why but even at 50% load I am hitting 80c !!!! Looks like I am stripping down my new build. :(

Which GPU did you get? Is it on air? My 980s (and most newer NV cards it seems) will just boost until they hit about 79/80 degrees then throttle back or ramp up the fans to keep them there.

I got a 970 on air and CPU on air, trimmed the power right down to low but was still hitting 8oc so stopped folding shut down PC - which then decided not to turn off but lose signal output to monitor via both GPU and onboard. Have sinced RMA'd MB and wait for return in about a month as I am away for a while with work.

Unlucky. I wouldn't be worried about the temp - mine hover around 75-80 when folding regardless of the power setting. The only difference I can see is the fans don't get so loud which is better for overnight.
