Problems loggin into steam

hi all i have not been on my pc for about a week and have turned it on today and not been able to log into steam even though im connected to the internet, msn messenger works and so does IE7.

i wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what you might think that it is?

or if i need to open any ports on my router to get it to loggin (even tho i have never had to open any ports to get steam to login)

there has been a power outage / surge in Seattle where the main verification servers are based meaning that most people are unable to log on. try after 10pm, there is a rumor that the UK will be back up about that time
