problems... asin my comps bust

right ok, i got a new heatsinc and so i fitted it, i took the mobo out, cos it needed a special cover thingy to hold it, takin into acount this is a 754 bord, and so i did that, and put a bit of thermal paste on the processor, then put the heatsinc on it, then i skrewed the mobo back in, and turned it on, and it just beeped neverendingly, then turned it of, and cleared the cmos, restarted it, and nothing happened on screen, but things made the usual noises astho it was starting up normally, and i know it isnt the graphics card, as i have tried another in it, and tried that one in another computer, and thats all it does now, nothing on screen, and it jsut makes noises asthough it is starting up normally. the lights cam on, provin that the power unit works and all the wires are in perfectly, i checked all tha, and stil it doesnt work...

it WAS constant beeps, but it only did that the first time, and acordin to the mobo guide, that means a memory problem

i know my graphics card works, and the ram works, the onlt 2 things i couldnt test was my mobo, and processor

edit: i would think it would be my motherbord, cos i actually handed it...

yep, and i tried different ram in the computer itself

try eliminating things which you don't need sch as hdd, drives etc also pci cards just leave ram cpu mobo and vga. if still doesn't work try removing the cpu cooler which you installed and see if you've done any damage to the cpu or if there is anything out of the ordinary

tried eliminating all but the necesery things, it made no difference, and i did remove the cpu cooler, the cpu looked fine

well ionicle we know for a fact already that your psu is bust.

also "constant beeps". 1 constant long beep or many small ones?? how many and how long?? they do mean something you know.

the psu is ok, te lights came on neway, andit was 1 1/2 second beeps continiously and the mobo anual said that was memory failure

sounds like the lightnin has fuxed up ya RAM <or ur Northbridge or onchip memcontroller > remove all non-essential components , try diff psu, try a diff cpu, try a diff mobo, try diff RAM, fix it then buy a surge protector.. what did memtest say or did u get the chance to DL that ??

from where is he going to get different cpu? well just give it to a pc shop and tell him yo test it and to tell you what is wrong if you dont know what is exactly going on!

why would he give it to a pc shop how is he going to learn about working with computers correctly? anyway i think he should just build him self a new rig

right ive got an update on this.

1.i tried the ram on my system, it works fine, not a single memery fault even under stress.

2.tried the card as well. despite the fact ionicle gouged a small continent out of it with a screwdriver it works too.

3. HAVENT tested the psu, and i reckon now that might be the problem. the levels were appalling before the lightening hit, so they must have been bad after.

so ionicle, try with another psu , and if that fails jus get a cheap board and cpu as you seem incapable of keeping a running computer, no offense.

because i think he will never learn , you said that he has to build a new rig, i would give him a p 1 mmx to learn

ive tried teaching him the basics of physical repairs and upgrades. hes basically far too rough with everything and he goes rushing in when he shoud wait. and dont try to teach him anything otherwise he'lll take it as an insult and bite your head off. and btw my offer of 40 quid for that card still stands. i dont think anyone else will want to buy a card thats been in your unsafe hands. oh well i dont think ull need it anyay at this rate because when i last hecked p1's dint support agp.....

oh and another thing, PLEASE stop sticking screw drivers in moving fan blades, it sint smart and it just wears down motors.
