from where is he going to get different cpu? well just give it to a pc shop and tell him yo test it and to tell you what is wrong if you dont know what is exactly going on!

friends, Ebuyers RMA service  or an old crppy spare off ebay -- a must in any accident-prone overclockers toolkit (along with a backup BIOS chip); it seems to be either the PSU, Mobo or proccy

i dont have the toolkit either as ive only ever fuxed up one piece of hardware ( a POS lappy i ran way too much current into --after doing a 2* OC-- it blew up) ; the 'toolkit' i was refering to is common sense items that peeps who oc, but who blow the s*it up regularly would use to restore their system /test componets BUT i would invest in a spare BIOS chip , that way if you do any really really stupid OCs and u can clear CMOS least u can start ur comp

lmao well this topics ended up quite funny.

right dave about the gfx card, he decided to undo the catch which can be done by hand as any fool knows, with, yepo a screw driver, and a sharp one at that. he scraped down the side of the card and knocked a resistor off and put a scratch in the tracks. amazingly it still works thanks to the ati principle of having a backup set of resistors . i only just realised why card makers do this is so that the card can use an alteritive route if the card gets damaged by a dumbass, or they just had ionicle armed with a screwdriver in mind when they made the radeon line. he also seems to have developed a habit of sticking the offending screwdriver into his cpu and gfx fan, which i constantly tell him not to do to no avail. btw whered you get that cooler from, its an absoloute beast. oh also i should mention that ive got his ram at the moment for testing, i played doom 3 for two hours online and did ram test using a few freeware utiliitys. it came out fine and thers nothign wrong with it. ive told him to use a different power unit, and to reseat the cpu just in case. however, he drowned the cpu in paste when he got the cooler, and he scraped it quite heavily to get rid of the old stuff. so, he might have got paste on the pins for all i can tell. so yeah, i think he needs a new board and cpu, and when hes got a new comp im going to lock it into a fallout shelter to stop him breaking it. :)

I still think the proc may be ok to use mate. They're quite hardy ya know. Its worth getting a shop to test it to make sure. Seriously its a good proc and it may be ok. The board may just be screwed.

He does need a new PSU tho :(

yea, i did wonder if the cpu is ok, but if he gets a new board hes going to try and get a dfi lanparty, nd the thought of him messing about with al; the features that thing has makes my blood run cold...

wel the computer, all but the power unit and mobo i think work and dispite what deepfred said, i dint scrape the graphics card track, i only took 1 resistor off, and there was n way to do it by hand due to that house sized cooler, and the skrew driver in fanblade thingy, was because i herd a whine, and i wanted to know which fan caused it, and i dint put too much paste on dispite what deepfried said

u freaking took a resistor off the graphics card??!!! that isnt a small thing you know they all do something!!
