Hello Ok i am having this problem after a year for having my windows 7 now is asking for me to activate it..i did that on the day i got wins7 so i retype the code and everytime i do i can't, so anoying does this mean i have to buy a new wins just for a new key?

thank you

when it asks you to reactivate it if you get the option to do the phone activation try that, i get this quite alot as i reinstall quite a few times with testing things and it solves it everytime for me

im no good on phones..do i talk to anyone orr?

You talk to a recording. You will say or enter a code you see on the screen once you go into phone activation. The recording will then read you off another code for you to type in. That should be it. Of the many of times I've had to call for customers etc since they started activation with XP, I've only had to talk to a real person once.

This system is stupid imo. It clearly doesn't work, but even tho i have a genuine version of Win7 i can't seem to be able to activate it.

phone activation works for me everytime no doubt and as hmmblah said you dont talk to anyone just a recording go slow as you read the code and be ready to type in new code badda boom done

It may be that your code has been cloned (perhaps even guessed)somehow and you may have to get through to a real person in order to sort the problem out.

I recall having something similar the first time I activated a code (it said it had been entered already) and I could not recall doing it. quick chat later and it was sorted.

forgot i had it on 2 pcs .. one user disc..been running 2 pcs from it one for my dad and this pc im now bene running it for a year now it asks me this:/ does this mean i need a new copy of windows? and do i need to install it fresh or just put the new code when i buy it on to the pc straight away?

Put the new code in when you buy it and you will be fine. No need to reinstall as long as the key is for the same version of Windows.

Not so sure about that.

Last year I cloned a genuine Windows 7 Professional to another PC. Like an idiot I forgot to use the loader on the cloned version (I was only fiddling about with another PC and intended to wipe it later) and it deactivated my other PC and blocked me out completely.

I got a message telling me I was running a stolen/cloned copy of Windows and that was that, ended up having to do a complete reinstall.

So I guess it depends how far he has gone. Once you get the above that's it, as you can't even get into Windows to attempt to reactivate it.

That's why I just use the loader now, even though my PCs are running genuine serials. Like all other software these days you try to be legal and honest and you get screwed, whilst the thieving gits don't get no DRM or crap put on their computers.

I've never had that issue. And yes, I've had it go that far on people's PCs. You can't get to the desktop, but you can enter a key and activate which then unlocks the systems. I don't even type keys anymore when installing. I do it after everything is all set up by going into system properties and clicking "change product key".

This could be down to localized versions of the OS though and different country's activation servers.

Mind you it could have been that I had them both on the same network

It was also a technet serial, so I would imagine they are super super strict on using those twice.

From what I can recall Microsoft have a "one serial fits all" on Windows 7.

They were forced to do it, because they were breaking the law.

Basically they had numerous different versions of XP and Vista. This was fine, but 90% of OEMs do not provide you with an install disc, only a serial and their bloated fat adware filled crap OS.

So what was happening was people were then going to torrent sites and downloading the version of Vista they were using in order to do a nice fat free install, before realising that their serial did not work because they needed "ZOMFG special wanker edition vershun of Vista innit?".

In most cases they could not even identify their OS, so were literally screwed.

So, don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty certain that 7 will take any serial that is for that version.

Phone activation fails too?

No, i can enter the cd-key, but it returns with a 'Your windows is not genuine' message, not in those words tho. I just downloaded a cracked version, because i can't F'ing be arsed with it.

I don't even get the option to phone. I don't care if this is illegal, who ever the -snip- designed this system needs to be fired.

If you have an upgrade edition and don't install it as an upgrade (i.e. bung it in from new). It should have the option of "activate online or by phone" as the first option.
