problem/question with NH-C12P CPU cooler

hello guys,

this is my first post on this forum after a few years,

so here it is:

I have purchased a CPU cooler Noctua NH-C12P

and while i was installing it i came up in the manual with the following attention:

"Caution: Take off the protection cover at the bottom side of the heatsink first!"

ok, so my headsink has NO protection cover on the bottom and it even seems a little scratched (i`m not sure about the scratch part but it seems so)

i`m asking you guys for some advice if I should take it back and ask the shop to change it - or the "protection cover" they mention in the manual is not supposed to REALLY BE on all products.

thank you in advance

btw, my E6750 DualCore overcloacked at 3000, has in windows xp (no progs started) around 40C and

- after 6 hours of full 100% with some CPU testing program - max 55C

is that ok ?

I've bought masses of coolers over the years. Some 'meant' to have a cover, some don't bother. Those who are meant sometimes the odd one doesn't have the cover (by cover they normally mean a shrink-static-plastic cover like u'd have on ur mobile phone screen when it's new - little tighter perhaps).

The question really is the condition of the plate and how severe the scratches are.

Really hard to advise without seeing pics of it tbh.

The temps look decent to me, I don't know if they should be alot better. Guess it comes down to how well it performs. If u find the temps are way off, then the scratches could be pretty bad. If the temps are good/average, they're probably insignificant.

I have the Noctua NH-U12P

and this is what the said plastic thingy looks like

Hope this helps:)

I got the Noctua and I had a plastic cover, the plate was SLIGHTLY scratched also. This is normal grooves across is, as long as it's going in one direction mine was fine:P.

Same cooler in my system :) Mine did have that little plastic cover in the box, but just as you said, the finish wasn't in perfect condition, with a few noticeable but minor scratches. It shouldn't be a problem really.

Is it possible the plastic cover fell out somewhere as you pulled it out of the box? It's clear and small, wouldn't be too hard to miss it on the floor :p

I have the U version. And I dont think that it came with the cover. Though the bottom is covered in...what I can only describe as a hologram. The way that there are grooves in it.
