Price/Performance 4820k vs 4790k

Motherboard and CPU combo, the 4820k is $40 cheaper than the 4790k, i am overclocking to a minimum of 4.5Ghz on either a Swiftech H320 or NZXT Kraken X61 both with Bitfenix Spectre Pro Black PWM fans, i need this build to last about 3 years but hearing about the thermal paste i have my suspicions that the soldered 4820k would last longer or am i just paranoid, i will be using 2 R9 290X's or 2 GTX 880's and a wifi card, what would the community suggest?
If this is a way to save money i would be very happy. If anymore info is needed please ask and any help is appreciated.

Thats going to be dependant on the silicone lottery......

The 4790K is the cool one - try reading the reviews we have done matey

I would go for the Haswell 4790K over the Ivy-Bridge 4820. The z97 motherboards will also likely have a few extra features.

But as Tom said have a look at the reviews.

I know its colder and more powerful but if the 4820k is worth the savings i dont know, i have a feeling your suggesting the 4790k, and hey are you the real tinytomlogan? if so im actually a pretty big fan, im sure you get alot of people that say that and its probably annoying but i read your reviews and watch your videos, they are quite long and along with the new build im getting a bigger mug :p

It's definitely too late to buy the 4820k now X99 is out, unless your going used in which case you might get a steal. There was a company selling Rampage IV Extremes for £180 at i52 paired with a used 4930k or something that would of been a killer cheap setup.

Anyway I have a 4820k and mine isn't that good the best i've got out of it is 4.5GHz kind of semi stable. It was OCCT stable for 12 hours but then took a poop while playing Assassins Creed one day and having had conversations with a few others that's a typical overclock for a IB-E chip. My old 2600k would actually outperform it in every respect. Like you I bought it when haswell came out because it was a little bit cheaper and I wanted an X79 board, I don't regret it but I don't rate it.

I have the 4820K and could run 4.5GHz at 1.2 Vcore.

I have been able to get a CPU-Z validation for 5GHz at 1.584 Vcore (1.55 bios).

STOP, stop right now. Don't dig up any more 4820k threads to necro about your chip.

once upon a time there was a mad bro, he was very mad.

He lived mad to the end of his days.

The end.

Do you have some sort of problem with this forum or something? Cause you are being extremely childish.

If you really want to brag about your chip, attach a CPU-Z validation to your sig...
