Need help gauging what wattage PSU you need in your system? Check out this calculator to give you a rough estimage.

Also remember that not all power supplies are created equal, so in general try to stick to the following brands:

Antec

Enermax

OCZ

PC Power & Cooling

Tagan

EDIT By Kempez

This calculator is more up-to-date and pretty useful (if a little over-zealous mebbe)

Check it out here

do you think its very accurate?

Its hard to tell really. But what i will say, is that it is only calculating for a standard system, not an overclocked or modified one.

Take for example my system - i'm currently using a really cheap psu until i can get a better one. It only gives out 282w, but yet its powering a 12v water pump, my prescott, a 6800GT and cathode lighting. It works fine as long as i dont overclock the system at all.

I haven't been able to use that link at all since I first saw it a couple of days ago. I wanna take a look-see cause I wanna see how much my PSU has on the rails!

How irritating!

Hey XMS, Just a friendly warning. Maximum PC Failed the Ultra X-Connect 500w PSU, on the load test, and low voltage tests. The power supply quality of those is quite low, yet I'm sure you already know this, but just be careful.

XMS that link worked. Only thing is, it doesn't have PC3200 RAM or 120mm LED fans! And it tells me I need a 350watt PSU - and mines 480w! :)

A good, cheap PSU is very rare, but if you do want one the Hiper TypeR cannot be beaten for the price :)

True 480W

Dual +12V rails - 18A on #1, 16A on #2

Sleeved UV cables

EZ grip Molexes

Perforated casing

Shiny as hell

Free 80mm System fan

Free rounded IDE cables (not always I don't think)

Costs around £50

Not that bothered about cheap - how is the OCZ modstream in peoples opinions here. I wanna get a 550w one. Either that or the X-connect 550w! :p

LOL. OCZ's have a nice rep with PSU's. Though, I Must ONLY Reccomend Enermax. They own me lol. But seriously, enermax psu's have been nothing but amazement to me.

The Antec NeoPower got 10/10 Kick Ass product in Maximum PC. It now comes down to OCZ vs. Antec. If you are gonna go MSI nForce 4 someday, go OCZ. If not MSI nForce 4 but some other brand, go for Antec. If you have an antec and a msi nf4, they WILL kill eachother. one may win, or they will both fail.
