Recently built my first rig. Built it with the power supply fan facing up as referenced in this pic. Now people are telling me I should of put the power supply with the fan facing down. Pretty new to this. Any thoughts on this subject. Power supply fan facing up or down? And why?

Doesn't matter dude. Don't you watch TTL's vids and see the comments. There is at least one comment asking the same question and the answer is always the same. IT DOESN'T MATTER my friend

makes absolutely no fan up fan down fan sideways or any orientation to that matter. Its purely personal preference and ascetics the only time it would make a difference is if there was no opening for it to draw air from (say solid bottom case) you would want it up. I mount mine fan down as it puts the 24/8pin cables closer to the mobo to reach in tall cases.

^^. Good advice.

When I had my Lian Li I always put the case on it's side before working inside it.

Doesn't make any difference... I think some psu's suit having the fan facing up more than down and provides something better to look at

I don't even know what the fan side of my PSU looks like :/

But as long as there's air intake at the bottom it's down to personal tast. Not seeing the fan someitmes gives a cleaner look, and then as dugdiamond said cable management is the most important bit.

Good cable management makes good hardware look good, I hate seeing mess in PC cases :/

well I joined the fan up club with the upgrade to the AX850 as the cables are amply long enough now to reach.

Does NOT matter at all, i wonder what people do when something could fall into the PSU

Generally it doesn't matter, but there are a few things to consider. Is you case going to be on the ground or desk? Is the ground it's going to be on carpet?

Because you can starve the PSU of air if you don't consider these things. With the dust on the ground or carpets which just completely cut off air to a PSU if you don't have it flipped up.

There's also a slight aesthetic to consider. For instance, Corsair PSUs look better fan facing up.

Finally cables, if you have a really tall case, sometimes it forces you to have a certain orientation so you the CPU power can actually reach the top left of the motherboard.

If your PSU is mounted on the bottom of your case, and you have a dust filter on the intake, it's best to have it facing down as it will draw cooler air, and foreign objects can't fall into it (as noted above)

This. If you have your system on carpet, then with the psu fan facing down the psu won't be able to get a lot of air in. Psu do get pretty warm when you cut off all air going into them. Other than that, it doesn't matter performance wise.
