Power Supplies and Overclocking

I've been wondering, how important is the power supply when it comes to overclocking. Beyond the obvious of having enough watts to power the CPU.

Would a high end PSU from Corsair give out a higher overclock than one from OCZ assuming they had the same wattage, because a Corsair is capable of supplying a more steady current. Or is the difference in PSU negligible, with power phases on the motherboard being the important piece of kit.

The power supply is probably the most important piece of equipment when talking about stability. It's often overlooked by most people though. If the rails aren't stable and close to what the values are supposed to be, you will have stability issues. Having enough watts and amps is only have the battle, if it can't keep steady voltages you will get issues. Max overclock could be affected certainly.

Your overclock could be unstable and you may point at the board or CPU not being able to handle those clocks, when it could in fact be the power supply not giving "clean" power to the system. I always go for a brand name quality PSU when building systems.
