Power outage: Mach II doesn't start

Hi There,

I've purchased a few month ago a fine specimen of the enhanced version of the mach II GT here. But I have some problems now:

We had a poweroutage here while the PC was running and now it wil not start. I hear the fans going and some minor stuttering of the compressor. After some time the error message TO SLOW appears on the frontpanel. The manual says: "CHECK THAT THE YELLOW/YELLOW WIRE IS CONNECTED PROPERLY TO THE MAINBOARD"

I read something about checking or replacing a fuse. Could this be the problem and is it replacable by a dummy like me (without soldering and such???

It could be that mate - more liley because of the message you are getting you may need to re-flash teh firmware

Try that first, then if that fails, replace the fuse using a 5amp jobbie.

Hi Mav,

The unit has worked flawlessly before so I do not really understand why I should be flashing now.

Uhm being Dutch means that some things I only understand when explained to me easily :rolleyes: What is a 5amp jobbie? And can I (being a technical n00b) replace it.

O.. another thing: When checking my PC I accidentally pulled of the USB cable from the USB head on the mainboard. I am NOT sure if I placed it back on the same head or if I have placed the connector the right way around. Can THAT be a problem?

Hey! When theres an electrical surge or any disturbance, the firmware could become currupt because of stuff I cant explain properly at the moment (long day) so flashing the firmware might be helpful.

5amp jobbie just means a 5A fuse. Just take out the old one and put the new one in, should be fine :)

If the USB is plugged in the wrong way, it just means the firmware cant be accessed, fan speeds cant be set, neither can the boot temperature. Is wont hurt the unit as far as I know- mine is plugged in the wrong way at the mo and I keep forgetting to switch it :)

Thanks for the info. The switched cable would only mean that I am not able to flash and/or see/use the control center software and display? Is that the right conclusion?

yup you`re right. the unit would/will still work at whatever values were previously loaded if the USB cable is disconnected. :)
 
Uhm.. fuse? Where?

Hi I've just opened up the GT but I don't seem to be able to locate a fuse. The only thing that slightly looks like a fuse is soldered on the circuit board. Where can I find the thing? Are there different versions of the control boards?

It's more than likely the firmware - I've had this happen to me several times. You can corrupt it yourself as well to test it (although not recommended) :)

Hi Stocky,

I must be looking in the wrong place, because I cannot see the thing. Is the fuse looking like a coil (copperwire around something)? I've got two of those. There is also a blue cap on the board. Maybe it is hidden underneath it?

Yes or run your pc on air to flash the fuse only needs to be replaced if the compressor does not start at all

The fuse in the black cylender type object the fuse holder :)
 
Fuse and compressor

Hi Compressor doesn't do anything!

I see ONE black cylinder-like object and this is soldered on the board. where do I have to look on the controlboard? Left? Right? . I made a photo which I wanted to upload but I am not allowed to do that!

Here is the picture from the other side. I recon one of the black things is the fuse? Which one and how to dismantle the thing? Is this something I can only buy in the UK?

This is the fuse holder the fuse is inside to open you need a small flat blade screwdriver it will fit into the slot on the cap turn anti clockwise to undo maybe 1/4 of a turn and it should spring open

if you are 240v in the netherlands then a 240v 5amp fuse if you are using 120v then I think it maybe a 10 amp fuse you should be able to get a fuse at your local electrical shop

As you can see there is a black device in front of it. How can I spring open the fuse when I can not reach it? How to remove the black thing in front of it?

Phil outa curiosity how do you corrupt the firmware yourself? Would unplugging the unit before it's finished heating up back to room temp do that?

I did that so much with my GT is was silly, needed to put the firmware back on while at a Lanparty once which was a) a nightmare and b) really embarrasing as my PC was ment to b the best there lol.

The big black thing is a capacitor it should just slide down a little just enough for you to be able to get a screwdriver onto the top of the fuse holder to turn it
